Most vehicles are designed for the road, so putting them on a track without proper preparation is not a good idea. Here is how to tune your car up so that it can handle a racecourse.Â
Tires
Your tires should be in the right condition for the track. Raising the pressure 10% above normal will reduce wear when you hit hard corners. On the other hand, releasing some air from the wheel can slightly increase grip. The choice is yours.
Engine Oil
Be sure to use the right engine oil for the track. A synthetic blend is recommended, as it can better handle the higher revs you need to perform at your best.
Brake Pads and Discs
Make sure to have brake pads with at least 100 miles worth of bedding before you hit the track. Better yet, upgrade to new units so that your car can manage aggressive slowing and stopping.Â
If you are headed to the racecourse for a special event, such as Skaha Ford's Track Day, contact our service centre to get a tuneup beforehand.Â
