Stable Growth Predicted For North American Lumber Industry

Sustainability propels North American lumber - with recent reports noting a surging employment rate, rising timber prices, and an emerging construction sector (Millennials are finally shedding their pre-recession caution to purchase properties, representing a staggering 68% of the first-time homebuyer market). Canada and the United States are poised for stable growth.This was welcomed news at the recent Montreal Wood Convention, where ‘Forest Economist Advisor’ director Brendan Lowney offered crowds positive predictions for the future. He surmised that North America’s mill productions will soon increase, adapting to construction demands. An excess of softwood and hardwood options will be needed to accommodate the changing housing market - and this will translate to strong profits.
In an interview with ‘Wood Business’, Lowney noted: “The price of wood is expected to reach $450.00.†This proves a striking contrast to 2015's rates, when costs stalled at $289.00.
