Change is coming to the North American lumber industry. In 2015 a series of complications - including falling commodity prices, steady unemployment rates, and a sudden 1.1% drop in overall construction - stalled the sale of softwood and hardwood products. Operational outputs, while still strong, failed to reach their full potentials; and mills experienced a subtle recession.A recent 'Timetric' report, however, emphasizes renewed growth in Canada’s construction and housing sectors - which should translate to improved milling for all of North America.
The report - dubbed 'Key Trends and Opportunities to 2020' - examines the impending upswing in Canadian construction, with government officials launching programs to accelerate market growth. These programs (which include the 'Affordable Housing Initiative') encourage property development, with analysts predicting a 2.13% overall rise in both community and infrastructural changes within the next four years. This will deliver thousands of new building opportunities.
