If you are thinking about purchasing a heavy-duty pickup, then you probably have quite a bit of hard labour for this truck to do. Luckily, the new 2021 Ram 3500 lineup offers a trio of powertrains for you to select from - including gasoline and alternative fuel options.
Â
Starting with the strongest motor in the family, the 6.7-litre Turbo Diesel High-Output Inline-6 from Cummins is available for all trim levels. Paired with a 6-speed automatic AISIN transmission, it delivers a jaw-dropping 420 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. It also boasts a class-leading towing capacity of 16,282 kg (37,100 lbs) while simultaneously managing a payload weighing up to 2,980 kg (6,570 lbs).
Â
The same engine is also offered as a regular unit without the High-Output label. This particular version still provides a remarkable performance by generating 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque. While the maximum attachment weight is capped at 10,282 kg (22,870 lbs), the bed can actually hold a bit more. It can handle cargo up to 3,102 kg (6,840 lbs).
Â
Finally, the standard 6.4-litre HEMI VVT V8 pumps out 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the Multi-Displacement system and 8-speed automatic transmission, you can load up the back with 3,483 kg (7,680 lbs) of cargo. Meanwhile, it can also haul around 8,259 kg (18.210 lbs).
