For serious off-roaders in BC, nothing beats the 2021 Jeep Renegade's available 4x4 systems. Either of the two options is sure to afford you excellent control and traction, no matter what you happen to come across while out on the trails.
First, there's the Jeep Active Drive four-wheel-drive unit. It boasts a single-speed Power Transfer Unit, combining FWD and AWD setups in a quick-change configuration. Moreover, it switches back and forth between them as needed, courtesy of the smart rear-axle disconnect that works seamlessly with the available Selec-Terrain Traction Management System in Auto mode.
Traction comes from mainly the front wheels during most driving conditions, but if they start to slip, the system transfers power automatically to the rear tires. As a result, you can stay focused on the trail while your Jeep Renegade does the rest.
Next, the Trailhawk trim level features the Jeep Active Drive Low system. It consists of a one-speed setup with Hill Descent Control, meaning it gets additional command of the Renegade's speed, throttle, and brakes. Plus, you can use Rock mode to get a 21:1 crawl ratio ideal for rough, uneven terrain in BC.
