Los Suenos is famed for its Marlins. Blue, Striped and Black varieties hide in the deep waters, tempting anglers with their massive bodies and sharp teeth. They’re hard to catch but easy to spot.
A recent White Marlin sighting, however, has even the most dedicated sport fisherman impressed.
On March 13 the Tico Times released photos of a White Marlin. This fish - which is a sub-breed of the Blue Marlin, with an elongated body and high dorsal fins - is rare. Few have ever been reported, and almost none of this particular coloring have been captured.
The White Marlin - which was caught, and subsequently released, by Captain Juan Carlos Zamora of the Spanish Fly - features no blue or black striping. Its pigmentation is instead completely pale, marking it as unique. Speculation quickly arose as to whether this fish could be an albino, but an examination of its eyes revealed that it was without that particular trait.
This creature is among Los Suenos’ most distinctive and most famous.
