These guys don’t communicate with each other. We wasted hours at the dealership test driving and getting a contract worked out and at the last minute we were told, “ oh this truck was sold 2 days ago”. We had taken a ferry into the city specifically to purchase this truck. How hard is it for the sales guys to put a sold sign on a vehicle? You would think they would have a bulletin board with inventory sales listed. Unacceptable!

Even on the darkest day of the year – the winter solstice – the engineers at Nissan didn’t let fewer hours of daylight to stop them from testing the durability of their paints against UV damage. Located within their Farmington Hills Technical Center in Michigan, the Xenon Weather-Ometer (XWO) tool provides sunshine 24 hours a day using a 4,000-watt Xenon bulb to test 100 samples at the same time.

According to Nissan, the XWO evaluates material durability in different climate conditions using the same wavelengths as the sun. Samples rotate around the bulb to replicate the earth's orbit, but since the tool can run around the clock, it takes the engineers half the amount of time to test paint samples for durability and superiority. The XWO also allows Nissan to create the harshest of environments, ensuring that the automaker’s quality standards are second-to-none. The result for consumers is greater longevity and a better ownership experience overall.

To learn more about the XWO technology and other quality tests, contact Kirkland Nissan in Seattle, Washington, for details.
nissan dealership near seattle tacoma kirkland newcastle kent washingtonTennessee is the U.S.-base for the Nissan brand – it’s the home of Nissan North America’s headquarters in Nashville, plus the company has heavily invested in the state to facilitate better and more efficient manufacturing practices. This month, the automaker broke ground on another project to help enhance the company’s training and development in Decherd, Tennessee.

Located next to the Decherd Powertrain Plant, the new 21,000 sq. ft. training center will be able to accommodate up to 180 Nissan employees at a time. The building will be equipped with tools to train staff in engineering, production, maintenance and management. It is expected to be built by this fall.

Nissan’s Decherd Powertrain Plant builds more than one million engines each year, earning it the title of the highest-volume powertrain plant in the country. Since opening in 1997, more than 13 million engines have rolled off the line and have ended up in the nameplates that we know and love, including the Maxima, Altima, Pathfinder, Rogue, Titan and Frontier.

This latest project is an exciting one for the 1,700 employees at the Decherd Powertrain Plant and one that will ultimately benefit all Nissan North American drivers. To learn more about our brand’s commitment to training and continuing education, call our dealership in Seattle, Washington, to discuss.
nissan leaf for sale in seattle kirkland tacoma washingtonAccording to recent news from the Nissan Motor Corporation, the automaker recently flipped the switch on a commercial rooftop solar system at one of its plants in Amsterdam.

The 9,000-panel system is expected to produce enough renewable electricity to power up to 900 households a year. It will also significantly reduce the Motor Parts Center’s CO2 output (up to 1.17 million kilograms of CO2 per annum) and produce almost 70 percent of the plant’s annual energy demand. A portion of the electricity generated will also feed directly into the country’s national grid.

In the press release, Francisco Carranza, Managing Director at Nissan Energy, said that the brand’s investment in new energy solutions is a cornerstone of Nissan Intelligent Mobility. According to Carranza, the solar project is also a clear demonstration of how the company strives to transform the way the global community drives, but also lives.

This latest project follows another Nissan renewable project that saw the creation of a three-megawatt storage system using second-life and new electric vehicle batteries, like those found in the Leaf. It went live this past summer in the Johan Cruijff Arena, which is the Netherlands’ largest stadium. You can read about the project here.

nissan new and used vehicles in seattle tacoma kirkland washingtonOne downside of vehicle ownership is how the sun’s rays can wear a paint finish, even when you take the best care in maintaining its exterior. However, the engineers at Nissan have found a way to help mitigate this problem with their Xenon Weather-Ometer (XWO) – a sunlight UV exposure tool that evaluates material durability in different climate conditions.

Based in Nissan’s technical center in Farmington Hills, Michigan, the XWO uses a 4,000-watt xenon light bulb designed to emit the same wavelengths of light as the sun. But, since the tool is enclosed in a controlled environment, it can run 24 hours a day without interruption from cloudy weather or nighttime skies. This also enables Nissan the ability to complete their UV exposure tests in half the time compared to tests that use actual sunlight.

The XWO can hold 100 material samples at once of new paints, plastics and other vehicle elements to test them before using them in the production of their vehicles, like the Titan or Rogue. The samples rotate around the light bulb to simulate how the sun moves around a car over the course of a day. Nissan still tests how materials react to UV rays using actual sunlight, but the XWO helps to accelerate the process by weeding out inferior materials and reducing waste.

nissan dealership new used seattle washingtonNissan has always remained ahead of the curve when it comes to innovative technologies and safety features. And now, they are projecting even further into the future by announcing that they will expand their Safety Shield 360 suite of features and driver-assist technologies to all of their top-selling models in North America.

According to the automaker, the Safety Shield 360 will boast six standard features that will protect drivers and passengers from all sides of the vehicle:

• In the front, the system will offer Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning and High Beam Assist.

• All sides will be equipped with Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

• In the back, Rear Automatic Braking will prevent collisions with stationary objects.

The decision to include these standard technologies was made by Nissan as a response to a recent study conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). According to their findings, cross traffic alert reduces crashes by 22 percent, while the combination of rearview cameras and sensors reduces crashes by 42 percent. Adding rear emergency braking reduces backing crashes by an additional 78 percent compared to vehicles without these features.

Currently, Safety Shield 360 will be introduced as standard equipment on SV and SL grades of the forthcoming 2019 Rogue, 2019 Rogue Sport and the all-new 2019 Altima. Remaining vehicles are expected to include this upgrade by 2021.

nissan vehicles for sale in seattle washingtonAccording to a recent press release from Nissan Motor Company, Ltd., the automaker will soon begin building vehicles with a new type of steel, which combines high tensile strength with a previously unachievable degree of formability. This new engineering promises to bring forth a fresh generation of lighter vehicles, which will not only lower emissions but provide improved protection for occupants.

Nissan is the first automaker to employ high-formability steel, which was jointly developed with the Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation. According to the release, “the steel’s combination of stamping formability and strength makes it possible to form parts with complex shapes that are thinner and lighter than those made of conventional high tensile strength steel.” It also provides an enhanced ability to absorb excess energy in a collision, thus improving the safety of the vehicle.

Nissan’s luxury division, INFINITI, currently uses the steel in its QX50 midsize SUV, which is available for sale in the United States. It’s the world’s first vehicle with front and rear side members made from 980-megapascal ultra-high tensile strength steel, along with other body frame parts. Nissan plans to expand the use of the material to more models in an effort to enhance fuel efficiency, as well as driving performance by lowering vehicle weight. This will also help the brand reduce CO2 emissions by 40 percent by 2022, as part of their ongoing sustainability plan.

Miniature Nissan Car Wash Ensures Better Paint Options for Seattle Residents

Ever wonder what a car wash the size of a popcorn machine can manage to accomplish? Well, now’s your chance to get that unlikely question answered. Nissan’s Technical Center North America, located in Michigan, has recently been making great use of this tiny contraption to test exterior paint samples.

This is no joke. The miniature car wash enables Nissan to see how new paints for the 370Z and similar vehicles stand up to the elements. Engineers are able to make use of tiny brushes that spin at 180 revolutions per minute (RPM) to throw dirt and water jets at diminutive test samples to replicate the abrasiveness of real-world conditions.

Just how tiny are the miniature cars themselves? In the video above, you’re looking at a 370Z that is at a 1:16 scale. However, note that this is for fun, illustrative purposes only. In actual testing, the paint is instead applied to small rectangular plates that are then put through the wash. Repeated assessments help Nissan to determine which finishes are the most durable.

If you're in the market for a 370Z, there is an array of incredible exterior paint finishes to choose from. These include Brilliant Silver, Chicane Yellow, Gun Metallic, Deep Blue Pearl, Passion Red, Magnetic Black, Pearl White, and Solid Red.

If you’re interested in learning more about Nissan’s quality control measures, don’t hesitate to pick up the phone and chat with us in Seattle!

This week, Nissan fully removed the shroud from its upcoming VC-Turbo engine, the world’s first production-ready variable compression ratio motor. Although the power plant is set to first appear on the INFINITI QX50, the Japanese automaker aims to bring the sophisticated technology to other lines, perhaps including the Pathfinder, Murano, and more.

The VC-Turbo is unique from conventional machines such as the Rogue in that it blends the efficiency of diesel engines with the performance of turbocharged gasoline motors. This is achieved through an advanced multi-link operation that alters the compression ratio seamlessly, lowering and raising piston reach constantly.

Nissan’s new engine flies in the face of conventional wisdom that only diesels and hybrids can produce both efficiency and high torque. The VC-Turbo provides 268 HP @ 5,600 RPM and 280-lb.-ft. @ 4,400 rpm. Gas mileage is fantastic, too—in the QX50, the motor is set to offer a combined MPG of 27, which marks a 35-percent improvement over the outgoing setup on the same vehicle. It seems clear that it's set to shake up the automotive world.
