Latest Nissan News For Seattle, Tacoma, And Bellevue Washington
nissan vehicles for sale in seattle washingtonAccording to a recent press release from Nissan Motor Company, Ltd., the automaker will soon begin building vehicles with a new type of steel, which combines high tensile strength with a previously unachievable degree of formability. This new engineering promises to bring forth a fresh generation of lighter vehicles, which will not only lower emissions but provide improved protection for occupants.

Nissan is the first automaker to employ high-formability steel, which was jointly developed with the Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation. According to the release, “the steel’s combination of stamping formability and strength makes it possible to form parts with complex shapes that are thinner and lighter than those made of conventional high tensile strength steel.” It also provides an enhanced ability to absorb excess energy in a collision, thus improving the safety of the vehicle.

Nissan’s luxury division, INFINITI, currently uses the steel in its QX50 midsize SUV, which is available for sale in the United States. It’s the world’s first vehicle with front and rear side members made from 980-megapascal ultra-high tensile strength steel, along with other body frame parts. Nissan plans to expand the use of the material to more models in an effort to enhance fuel efficiency, as well as driving performance by lowering vehicle weight. This will also help the brand reduce CO2 emissions by 40 percent by 2022, as part of their ongoing sustainability plan.

2018 nissan nv commercial vehicles seattleThis week, Nissan North America reached a monumental milestone – the company celebrated the production of 4 million vehicles at its Canton assembly plant in Mississippi. The automaker also announced that they have added a second shift at the facility, which will support increased demand for NV Commercial Vans, while also ensuring 250 hourly jobs.

"Adding a second shift for NV Van production underscores our employees' hard work and dedication to building world-class, quality vehicles for our customers," said Steve Marsh, VP of Manufacturing at the Nissan Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant.

The facility is also set to celebrate 15 years of vehicle manufacturing in Mississippi, which is another great milestone. Nissan has grown the plant from a regional manufacturing facility to a global one, investing $3.4 billion since its opening in 2003. The company employs 6,400 at the Canton plant, with more than 1,500 jobs added since 2013. With an annual capacity of 450,000 vehicles, the facility is home to the Nissan Altima, Murano, Titan and Titan XD, Frontier, NV Cargo Van and NV Passenger Van.

Here’s a quick overview of some of the vehicle’s key highlights:

Under the hood
The 2018 Murano runs on its tried and true 3.5-liter V6 (the same engine found on the 2017 model), which outputs 260 horsepower and returns a respectable EPA rating: 21 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway. It’s also available in front- and all-wheel drive.

More feature rich
Automatic emergency braking and intelligent forward collision warning are now standard on all trims. Blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert have also been added to the SV trim, while intelligent cruise control now comes standard on the SL.

Exterior add-ons
New for 2018, the Murano features a motion-activated power liftgate, which is standard on SL and Platinum trims. The Platinum also gained a standard dual panel moonroof, while the SL offers an available moonroof package.
