Slow and steady wins the sales race - with the 2018 LEAF moving ever-closer toward the top of the charts. Despite entering a market defined by crossovers and half-ton monsters, this hatchback has managed to secure impressive gains in Seattle; and its performance has proven impossible for the critics to ignore.

As Electrek explains, the 2018 LEAF jumped from 895 units in February to 1,500 in March. While these tallies may at first seem underwhelming, critics are quick to remind that they represent a 10% year-to-year growth for Nissan; and they also follow the recent hybrid trend (global sales have been kind to this platform, with The Drive noting that it ranks among the top models in Japan and Europe).

What does this mean for the LEAF’s stateside future? The Kirkland team believes that drivers are beginning to appreciate its value - recognizing both its potent performance (147 HP and 236 lb.-ft of torque, courtesy of a powerful 40-kWh lithium-ion battery) and superior efficiency (151-mile electric range). This hatchback proves perfect for everyday commuting, with its aerodynamic side panels and rear diffuser countering friction. This ensures a 0 to 60 run of 7.5-seconds, and it yields spirited CVT handling down every Seattle street.
