BC/Yukon Ladies' Auxiliary Announces Torch Bearer for
2013 Legion Championships

LANGLEY, BC August 3, 2013 – Marie-Josée Le Jour is travelling from Ontario as one of the volunteer Coaches for the 2013 Legion National Youth Track & Field Championships being held August 9, 10, 11 at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley, BC.  Ms. Le Jour is also an Alumna of the Championships dating back to 1994 and will be one of this year’s Torch Bearers.

Ms. Le Jour credits the Legion Championships as being a “life turning point”. “Thanks to the Legion, I found a passion for track and field. Through this passion, I travelled the world, I met amazing people, and I had incredible experiences. I even earned an athletic scholarship in the NCAA, which allowed me to get a Bachelor’s degree and two Masters for free. Most importantly though, I learned the value of hard work, dedication, perseverance, and commitment.”

In 1993, a Quebec Coach sent Ms. Le Jour a pamphlet about the Legion Championships.  She decided to give it a try even though soccer, gymnastics, and badminton were her sports of choice.  In 1994, 1995, and 1996, she qualified for the Quebec Team and became a track and field rising star. “If it hadn’t been for the opportunities given to me by the Legion, I am convinced my life would have turned out very differently. Athletics has played a crucial role in all aspects of my life. I am very grateful to the Legion for giving me my first taste of national competition and for giving the same opportunities to some of the athletes I coach, almost 20 years later.” commented Ms. Le Jour.

  1. Legion National Champion in the discus in 1994 (U16) and 1996 (U18). Two-time NACAC medalist for Canada in the discus and shot put. Canadian Senior National Champion in the discus in 2002, 2005, 2006, and 2009 and 14-time national medalist in the discus and shot put from 2000 to 2013. NCAA All-American and Academic All-America First Team at the University of Arkansas.

  2. Ms. Le Jour is still competing at the elite level and will be representing Canada at the Jeux de la Francophonie in Nice, France this upcoming September. She is also actively involved in coaching the throwing events for the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and the University of Toronto Track Club. Two of her pupils (Cyerra Cassell and John Reston) will be competing in their first Legion Championships in Langley.

Legion welcomes support of British Columbia Government for 37th Annual Legion National Youth Track & Field Championships

Langley, B.C. -- July 26, 2013 - Every year in August, The Royal Canadian Legion in partnership with Athletics Canada, sponsors a national track and field competition for young athletes between the ages of 14 to 17. This is the only competition of its kind in Canada with an alumnus that boasts a good majority of our Nation’s Olympians.

The BC/Yukon Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary will host the 2013 and 2014 Championships at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley, BC, August 9, 10 and 11 beginning this year. Over 1,000 youth athletes, the best of the best, will compete for Medal standing and an opportunity of a lifetime.

Now the Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary has just received official support from the B.C. Government for this exciting project.

"We are so pleased to be supporting this important and prestigious athletics event," said Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, Coralee Oakes. "The Legion Championships represent a fantastic development opportunity for Canada's future athletic leaders and give us a preview of the incredible talent that is on the rise in our province and our country.  At the same time, this event gives the host community a chance to shine.  I know that Langley will give a warm welcome to the thousands of visitors who will attend," said Oakes. Minister Oakes will welcome the youth athletes at the official Opening Ceremonies, which are open to the public, on Friday, August 9th at 7:00 PM at McLeod Athletic Park.

This year's games are made possible through the generosity of more than 320,000 Legionnaires and some 4.5 million British Columbians whose commitment to our youth is evident with the Legion National Youth Track & Field Championships being held in Langley, BC.

“As members of a national organization, it makes all Legionnaires proud to be supported by the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development and the Government of British Columbia in our collective efforts to support the development of Canadian youth," says Legion Dominion President, Gordon Moore.

Hosting in British Columbia will have a profound economic impact for sports tourism, brining into the Province over $12.2 Million over the two year experience.

YO.ca goes live.

PRESS RELEASE
Vancouver, British Columbia, April 2, 2013   FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

YO.ca Goes Live - After 73 years in the Shadows, The Royal Canadian Legion Goes Global By Harnessing the Power of a Content Marketing Engine Combined With Individual Social Marketing Tools for all participants of the National Youth Track & Field Championships

As the business of sports and entertainment converge, attracting visibility to sporting events both professional and non-professional are becoming more dependent on different forms of media for promotion and visibility.

OneBigBroadcast (OBB) is honored to deliver the world’s first private socially integrated member portal to the athletes and families of the 2013 & 2014 Legion National Youth Track & Field Championships to be held in Langley, British Columbia.  Sanctioned and officiated by Athletics Canada, 1,000 young men and women from across Canada will compete in the only national championships for the age group 12 – 17 years.

For ten days they: train with professional coaches; compete in a national competition; participate in citizenship activities and experience a once in a lifetime opportunity.  This is the first venue for Athletics Canada to view Canada's upcoming cadre of recruits for its Olympic teams.

The OBB private social networking platform will enable the athletes to create their own profiles and share their individual stories, while allowing for integrated control over published content through the platform’s directorial functions.

The personal, socially integrated content developed by the participating athletes will be broadcasted through the athletes’ respective social sites and to other T&F clubs globally, fostering community and awareness about this important athletic event and ultimately attracting search back to the Young Olympians site (YoungOlympians.ca and YO.ca).

In addition to building awareness and support for some of the world’s most promising athletes, the platform’s social casting tools will be used to capture and broadcast the excitement of the annual Legion National Youth Track & Field Championships in real time. One Big Broadcast will be working in conjunction with Shaw Media and JoyTV (a Vision Network Channel) to execute joint communications, social casting and media for this event.  Sponsors will have access to their own branded content marketing and social automation tools as well to help raise visibility for their brands and the event.

We are thrilled for the opportunity to be involved in this noble event, and for the chance to showcase both the incredible athletic talent and the generosity of The Royal Canadian Legion through this state-of-the- art private social networking platform.

OneBigBroadcast is an all in one content creation and marketing platform with combined applications that automate social media news, enhance Search Engine Optimization and largely increases traffic to a web site, increased visits and sales. OneBigBroadcast recently developed new tools for the emerging area of social ecommerce and harnessing the power of enterprise content marketing and management.     www.OneBigBroadcast.com

The Royal Canadian Legion is one of Canada's largest non-profit charitable service organizations.  In addition to the Legion's vast community philanthropic and volunteer service, their dedication to youth leadership and development dates back to the end of the Second World War and has never wavered.  This is evident in the 73 year legacy of the National Championships, training and mentoring Canada's future young Olympians.     www.Legion.ca
