When it comes to full-size, light-duty pickups, the amount of power the truck puts out on a standard level is very important. It determines just how strong and capable the vehicle is without any added bells and whistles. Comparing the 2022 Ram 1500 to the 2022 Ford F-150 is the perfect example.
Â
The base engine housed inside the Ram 1500 is Canada’s favourite 3.6-litre V6 from Pentastar. Complete with an 8-speed automatic transmission and the innovative eTorque mild hybrid system, it delivers 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. Plus, it also has the ability to produce 90 lb-ft of launch torque, which makes acceleration extremely robust. As for towing, the 4x2 drivetrain can pull 3,496 kg (7,710 lbs), and the 4x4 version can handle 3,383 kg (7,460 lbs).
Â
On the other hand, the Ford F-150 starts the trim lineup with a smaller 3.3-litre V6. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, it generates 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. That’s significantly lower than the Ram. The hauling limit is around 2,267 kg (5,000 lbs), and it doesn’t have any extra juice for launching.
