Who says you need two pedals to drive? Nissan certainly doesnâ€™t believe so, as theyâ€™ve pioneered â€œe-Pedalâ€ technology on the 2019 LEAFâ€”a system that enables the all-electric vehicle to be fully operated with only one pedal.

So, hereâ€™s the scoop, Seattle: the e-Pedal lets you both accelerate and brake the LEAF with only one pedal, eschewing the conventional setup. While fully optional in this yearâ€™s Nissan EV, it lets the driver press down on the e-Pedal to gradually accelerate; conversely, easing up on the pedal enables you to slow the car down. When you remove your foot altogether, the carâ€™s regenerative brakes kick in and a full stop is completed.

With the 2019 LEAFâ€™s e-Pedal, the brake lamps turn on whenever pressure on the pedal is released. The e-Pedal can also stop a car while on an incline and is compatible with parallel parking situations. As a result of its design, it promotesÂ enhanced driving range and longer-lasting brake pads.
