Nissan GT-R fans, do we have some hair-raising footage for you! NISMO ambassador Marc Gené recently set a new track record at the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA) in Torrejón de Ardoz in Madrid. 
 
Gené is revered as one of the most successful motorsport drivers in Spain, having participated in the 1998 Open by Nissan, Formula 1, and the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours Race in 2009. Nissan tasked him to beat the record at the challenging 1,756-meter INTA circuit, which he did not once, but three times in three different GT-R models – the GT-R R35, GT-R Track Edition, and GT-R NISMO.
 
With each run, Gené improved his time, starting with the GT-R R35 at a solid 1:06.93, then following up that performance with the GT-R Track Edition at 1:06.39 and the GT-R NISMO at a wicked 1:05.83. Sensational!

Upon being proposed the challenge, Gené accepted with caution since the test track was one that he had never raced before. But it didn’t take long for the motorsport superstar to realize how well-suited the GT-R was for such a technical track, especially the NISMO. According to Gené, “It is a real racing car that you can drive on a daily basis. It has a spectacular suspension. When you drive it on the circuit, you can truly tell it has the Motorsport in its DNA.”

Record-Breaking Nissan GT-R Displayed at 2017 Saudi International Motor Show

In the spring of 2016, history was made on the tarmac of Fujairah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates. A specially-tuned MY16 Nissan GT-R set the Guinness World Records title for the fastest ever drift. 
 
Driven by Masato Kawabata, the champion and title holder for the Japanese drifting series, the GT-R clenched the top spot with a speed of 304.96 km/hr and an angle of 30 degrees, dethroning former record holder Jakub Przygoński of Poland.
 
 
Fast-forward to today and the record-breaking Nissan GT-R was recently on display at the 2017 Saudi International Motor Show (SIMS), giving drift fanatics an up-close and personal look at the winning vehicle.
 
“We were excited to showcase such an iconic Nissan GT-R during SIMS 2017 as it demonstrates the breadth of the supercar’s capabilities,” said Bader Al-Houssami, CEO of Nissan Saudi Arabia. “There is a huge interest in motorsport in Saudi Arabia and the GT-R is a car which is loved by many, as it clearly demonstrates its performance leadership by beating the best drift cars in the market.”
 
The specially-tuned Nissan GT-R was developed in connection with Nismo specialists to reach 1380 hp with all power generated to the rear wheels. Kawabata and his team tested the vehicle extensively at Japan’s Fuji Speedway to ensure the drifter’s agility, performance and handling at high speeds. Their hard work certainly paid off, proving that only the sky is the limit for the Nissan brand.

Dubai International Motor Show Names Nissan GT-R “Best Car Ever”

The GT-R is already one of the most celebrated cars of all time, and now Nissan’s achievement has taken home another award courtesy of the many enthusiasts attending the past week’s blowout vehicle exhibition in the Middle East. The Dubai International Motor Show has crowned the speedster the “Best Car Ever.”

The award came during the “Ignition Live Talks” open session, wherein the GT-R was pitted against 30 different car models across the brand spectrum. The crowd of eager spectators and participants eventually whittled the field down to only three. Nissan’s gem took top honors, with the Porsche 911 and Ford Mustang taking second and third, respectively.


The model on display—the MY17 GT-R—offers the latest, most progressive Nissan aesthetic available. This includes a new hood with a wind-cutting shape, side sills designed specifically for improved airflow, and, of course, the standout chrome “V-motion” front grille. Notably, the car also sports a 3.8L, 24-valve twin-turbo V6 that stuns with 565 horses and 467-lb.-ft. of torque. Insane!

Spare Skyline GT-R Parts Coming to Seattle, Washington

Attention Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R owners in Seattle, Washington! If you are in desperate need of replacement parts for your vintage vehicle, but are tired of unreliable and risky supply chains, do we have good news for you. Nissan has just announced a new spare parts supply program for their heritage cars. 
 
Dubbed Nismo Heritage, the company plans to launch approximately 80 remanufactured parts for the 1989-1995 R32 Skyline. This includes in-demand components, such as wiring harnesses, badges, bodywork, and hoses. Should the project prove successful, Nissan may extend the program to other models, including the R33 and R34 Skylines.

Nismo Heritage is fantastic news for Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R owners who previously had to rely on eBay and enthusiast forums to buy used parts. It should bring forth a rebirth of refurbished models – ones that we can’t wait to see on Seattle area streets!

This past weekend, the 20th running of the Nismo Festival took place in Japan and showcased the fan favorite Nissan GT-R and the Nismo. More than 28,000 enthusiasts were in the crowd, along with thousands more tuning into the Nismo.tv live stream on YouTube.
 
Along with the usual Nismo Grand Prix race, which featured entries from Super GT, Super Taikyu and Europe's Blancpain GT Series championships, the event also included a Racing GT-R Heritage Run – a track run that featured 16 iconic GT-Rs from Nissan's illustrious racing past, going all the way back to the Skyline HT 2000 GT-R from the late 1960s.

Talk about a blast from the past! 

Other cars on the track included the Group A-spec Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 with the Calsonic version driven by Nismo legend Kazuyoshi Hoshino. The R32 won an unbelievable 29 consecutive races in Japan and was recently voted the greatest Nissan/Nismo race car of all time. Certainly well-deserved!

Nissan GT-R Nismo Rebuilt at the Spa 24-Hour Race

During the 2017 Spa 24-Hour Race in Belgium, the unthinkable happened to the Nissan GT-R Nismo team. No. 22, driven by Matt Simmons, Struan Moore and Matthew Parry, caught a puncture during practice in the Eau Rouge corner, causing the race car to plummet into the wall at 100 mph. 
 
Thankfully, the driver was okay, but the GT-R Nismo was not. Rather than accept defeat, the team had 41 hours to completely rebuild the car before the race. They were up for the challenge.

Despite the team’s successful attempt at rebuilding the vehicle, No. 22 only managed to muster up a 30th-place finish in the endurance contest. However, the team’s grit, stamina and perseverance were certainly podium worthy in the eyes of GT-R Nismo fans.

2018 Nissan GT-R Coming Soon to Seattle for Under $100K

When the Nissan GT-R was unveiled in 2008, it brought Seattle drivers supercar performance for just under $70K. Since then, the MSRP has crept above the six-figure mark, but that’s about to change. Nissan recently announced that pricing for the entry-level 2018 GT-R Pure will sit below the $100K range, making it more accessible to a wider pool of North American drivers.
 
Here’s a look at Nissan’s pricing structure:
 
2018 GT-R Pure: $99,990 MSRP
This trim is designed to be the most affordable, but still performance-oriented. Its 3.8-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 throws down an impressive 565 horsepower and 467 lb.-ft. of torque.
 
2018 GT-R Premium: $110,490 MSRP
The Premium adds a few more creature comforts to its list of standard features, including an 11-speaker Bose sound system, titanium exhaust and active noise cancellation. 
 
2018 GT-R Track Edition: $128,490 MSRP
The Track Edition, now in its second year of limited availability, delivers the same 565 horsepower of the Pure and Premium trims, but with certain features only found in the GT-R NISMO. 
 
2018 GT-R NISMO: $175,490 MSRP
The NISMO, which is available in very limited numbers, is a supercar engineered with the track in mind. It features specially designed technologies that enhance the car's 600 horses through optimized aerodynamics, suspension and powertrain.
