Last year, Nissan created a stir at the 2016Â Los Angeles Auto ShowÂ by debuting a custom Rogue decked out like an X-Wing for the launch of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.Â

This year, Nissan is at it again, but this time they turned to the dark side for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which opens nationwide on December 15. And instead of one vehicle, Nissan unveiled seven Star Wars-themedÂ concept vehicles. The Force is definitely strong at the 2017Â Los Angeles Auto Show!

The lineup of Nissans includes the Rogue, Rogue Sport, Altima, Maxima and Titan. Each vehicle showcases its own distinctive design, which was created in collaboration between Lucasfilm and Vehicle Effects â€“ a California-based company best-known for their custom cars in the latest Fast and FuriousÂ movies.

Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the Lucasfilm brain trust, which was influential in creating these Nissan show cars, which are drawing massive crowds in LA:

Unfortunately for Seattle area Star Wars fans, these concept vehicles are not for sale. However, they do celebrate a new world of technology, which are attracting consumers to many of Nissanâ€™s latest models, like the highly-anticipated 2018 Kick or the next-generation Leaf.

Could Nissan and DeNAâ€™s Easy Ride Mobility Service Come to Seattle?

Ever wish you could hire a robo-vehicle to drive you to work or pick your kids up from their activities? That dream could be a reality â€“ and soon.

This week, Nissan Motor Company, Ltd. and DeNA Company, Ltd. unveiled their new robo-vehicle mobility service dubbed Easy Ride. The two companies began developing the innovative autonomous driving technology in January 2017 and have plans for public field testing in March 2018 in Japanâ€™s Minatomirai district of Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture.

The idea behind the technology is simple: to bring more freedom of mobility to anyone that wants to travel freely to their destination by way of a robo-vehicle. The aim is to provide customers with a mobile app where they can set-up destinations, summon vehicles and pay fares.

The performance for the 2018 Nissan LeafÂ is assured. Even the base model of the vehicle will achieve 150 miles of range, which represents an improvement of 43 miles over the 2017 model. Nissan has some lofty goals in the next six years. The Japanese automaker, in conjunction with Renault and Mitsubishi, recently birthed an â€œAlliance 2022â€ strategy. The mission? To guide the behemoth into the future with an aggressive line of tactics that include a strong focus on electric automobile technology.

The strategy, as outlined by chairman and CEO of the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance, Carlos Ghosn, introduces the following measures:

The development of commonly shared, scalable electric car platforms
The creation of electric engines and batteries for vehicles including the LEAF
The reduction of battery costs by 30-percent
The introduction of batteries with greater than 372 miles of range
The design of plug-in hybrid powertrains expressly developed for larger vehicles
A shared cloud platform that will manage data across various interfaces
A deployment of a total of 12 electric cars Self-driving systems for more than 40 models of cars

At the 45th Tokyo Motor Show only days ago, Nissan revealed their IMx all-electric autonomous crossover concept, based on technology scheduled for a 2020 arrival. Weâ€™ve spoken ofÂ the amazing nature of the machineâ€™s ability to effortlessly switch between the manual, human-driven mode and the ProPILOT self-driving function, but letâ€™s really dig into the power and performance details of this amazing future vehicle.

Two high-output electric enginesâ€”one at the front and one at the back of the automobileâ€”bestow the IMx concept with its incredible speed and overall performance. Together, the motors offer 700 Nm (newton meters) of torque and 320 kW of power, building upon what the manufacturer has learned with the LEAF. All this, of course, is delivered silently and efficiently, without the grunting and wheezing of conventional gasoline alternatives. Additionally, this crossover sports a battery thatâ€™s been redesigned specifically for higher energy density. Youâ€™ll receive approximately 370 miles of driving range as you journey around Renton, Bellevue, and Seattle!

Thereâ€™s more, though. The IMx is designed to mimic a high-performance vehicle. It boasts a low center of gravity for great responsiveness through curves and turns. Also, the platformâ€™s rigidity keeps the driver connected to the streets with a wonderful on-road feel.

Nissan IMx Concept Vehicle Poised to Be Seattleâ€™s Car of the Future

Nissan is poised to deliver the future of automobiles sooner than many may have anticipated. Revealed at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, the IMx all-electric autonomous crossover concept is at the forefront of the companyâ€™s Intelligent Power Initiative, due for introduction to the masses beginning in 2020.

The Nissan LEAF, of course, offers ProPILOT technology, but the IMx concept takes it further. It provides entirely autonomous drivingâ€”no human intervention or effort required! It works via a simple mode selection. When you want to kick back and relax, select PD Mode. This hides away the steering wheel and automatically reclines all seats as the computer takes over and guides passengers to their destination. Conversely, if you want to take matters into your own hands, you need only choose Manual Drive (MD Mode) to reverse the aforementioned changes and regain full control of the vehicle.

Nissan is touting just how simple this all is via its Human Machine Interface. Selecting either ProPILOT Drive or Manual Drive modes is as easy as making the switch via the PD Commander. This is conveniently arranged directly on the center console and can also be activated via voice control.

Seattle Racing Enthusiasts Gear up for Nissan's Entry into Formula E

In conjunction with the reveal of two new electric concept vehicles at Tokyo Motor Show 2017, Nissan has formally announced their intention to join Formula E for the 2018-2019 season. This pledge is exciting news for racing car and EV enthusiasts everywhereÂ and stands to give the manufacturer a global platform to show off their design prowess.

The two new zero-emission conceptsâ€”the LEAF Nismo and IMx crossoverâ€”represent Nissanâ€™s big all-electric plans and their push for intelligent mobility. The former car, specifically, represents the manufacturerâ€™s engineering sophistication as it announces its plans to enter Formula E racing. It will offer a sportier suspension, Continental summer tires, and recalibrated tuning that aims to improve the availability of the original machineâ€™s 147 horses and 236-lb.-ft. of torque. As a result, the vehicle will be more lively and responsive.

Nissan will become the first Japanese car maker to enter the racing championships. Competing in season 5 of Formula E in late 2018, the manufacturer (along with other participants) will for the first time be able to develop a substantial portion of the vehicleâ€™s electric powertrain components. While all contestants must still utilize the same chassis, it will be a fresh one that differs from that featured this December for season 4.
