Latest Nissan News For Seattle, Tacoma, And Bellevue Washington
nissan leaf dealer seattle tacoma bellevue washingtonThis week in Detroit, the 2018 Nissan Leaf was recognized as the highest rated redesign at the inaugural J.D. Power Engineering Awards, which were presented at the Society of Automotive Engineers 2019 WCX World Congress Experience.

"This award is a credit to [the] hundreds of Nissan technical professionals here in the U.S., as well as in Japan," said Chris Reed, Senior VP of Engineering at Nissan North America, in a press release. "Any vehicle redesign requires a massive amount of coordination across many functional teams, and I am very proud of the excellent vehicle this effort produced, which has been recognized by J.D. Power."

Within the automotive industry, J.D. Power has cemented itself as the authority for benchmarking quality. With their new Engineering Awards, they are able to recognize the achievements of innovators who turn concept vehicles into practical modes of transportation. The Leaf is a prime example – since its release in 2010, the all-electric car’s engineers have been able to utilize the lessons learned from each generation and apply that education to the Leaf’s latest redesign, which will see the release of a PLUS version later this year.

Earlier last year, the racy Nissan Leaf NISMO RC was unveiled at the annual NISMO Festival at the Fuji International Speedway in Japan – and now, North Americans will finally get a taste of the car's glory with its first appearance overseas. Next week, Nissan will have the Leaf NISMO RC on display at CES 2019, along with other all-electric platforms as part of their new vehicle introduction.

The first-generation Leaf NISMO RC was initially released in 2011, but this latest rendition builds upon the vehicle’s electric powertrain to provide even more power and torque. The second-gen model now boasts a motor on both the front and rear axle for all-wheel drive capabilities that create 322 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque. Power is generated from a high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack, which is mounted in the middle of the car. Weighing in at only 2690 lbs, the Leaf NISMO RC sports a multitude of lightweight components and a carbon fiber body for 50 percent faster performance than the previous model. In just 3.4 seconds, this track star can reach speeds of 62 mph, which is incredible.

2019 nissan leaf for sale in tacoma kirkland bellevue renton washingtonWorld’s best-selling. Earth-loving. Electric-driving. All three terms are ways to describe the 2019 Nissan Leaf. But, we can add another phrase to the list as well – and that’s award-winning. Drive.com.au recently announced its winners for their Car of the Year Awards and the Leaf zipped off with the coveted Car of the Year Green Innovation honor.

Comprised of a panel of seven expert judges, Drive.com.au acknowledged the Leaf for its abilities beyond its plug and play capabilities – specifically, the capacity for the EV’s battery to deliver energy back into the household grid.

"There are significant advantages in driving an electric car, but the Nissan Leaf takes those benefits beyond the driving experience with the ability to save money when it's in the driveway," said Andrew Maclean, editor in chief of the Drive Network in a press release. "The Nissan Leaf-to-Home function makes the electric car more appealing than ever."

Leaf-to-Home technology makes it possible to store surplus solar power in the battery during the daytime and then use it to power the home in the evening. Drivers can also recharge the battery in the middle of the night, when prices are typically more affordable, then use the electricity during the day to reduce energy costs. Leaf-to-Home also enables the EV to meet typical household electricity needs for up to two days if the power is disrupted. In emergency situations, this could prove very useful.

Aside from its uses off the road, the 2019 Leaf certainly provides a top-shelf driving experience. The powertrain boasts a 110 kW electric motor and a 40 kWh Lithium-ion battery for a 150-mile range. With its dynamic design and advanced technologies, including ProPILOT Assist and ePedal, the Leaf continues to give Seattle drivers even more compelling reasons to make the switch to plug-in power for greater efficiency and zero-emission performance.

2019 nissan leaf best price seattle tacoma washingtonIf you’ve been following news about the 2019 Leaf all-electric vehicle, you may remember hearing speculation earlier this year about the plug-in receiving a larger battery and range at some point in the near future. The Drive recently published an article about this topic this week and according to their sources, a German publication has reportedly attained the new larger battery’s specifications.

At the moment, the 2019 Leaf is equipped with a 40-kWh battery for a range of 150 miles. Based on The Drive’s research, this is on the shorter side when it comes to all-electric range distances, but not for long. According to the German site, Electrive, a Leaf E-Plus is expected for 2019 and will include a 60-kWh battery for a total range of approximately 220 miles. Charging times should be comparable with the current model too.

The enhanced powertrain is reportedly a $6,580 USD premium over the base 40-kWh Leaf, bring the total cost of the vehicle to around $36,500 USD.

More details about the Leaf E-Plus are expected to be announced at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January. Be sure to check back to our blog in the New Year, as our team at Kirkland Nissan in Seattle is paying close attention to this developing story.
2019 nissan leaf for sale seattle washingtonRecently, Nissan announced a new pilot program that’s generating a lot of buzz. The company is using the battery-powered Leaf EV to act as a power source for its Franklin, Tennessee, headquarters and San Diego, California, design center. The purpose is to help cut electricity costs during peak power demands.

Coined the Nissan Energy Share, the program aims to demonstrate the vast potential of electric vehicles to serve as energy storage systems that can power external electric loads in buildings and homes. Nissan is partnering with Fermata Energy on the project, combining Fermata's chargers and software and the Leaf's ability to feed power back into the grid or buildings.

The system is designed to continuously monitor a building's electrical load and look for opportunities to draw energy from the Leaf batteries during high-demand and costlier periods. Nissan says the program is well-suited for companies with fleet vehicles and that the automaker has already begun programs in the U.S., Japan and Europe aimed at creating an "ecosystem" around its range of electric vehicles.

If the pilot proves successful, Nissan and Fermata Energy will work towards commercializing the technology. It could join other "second-life battery" initiatives for Leaf batteries, including new recycling methods for lithium ion packs and the installation of second-life batteries in North American facilities.
