2014 legion nationals new medalsThe 2014 Legion Nationals will soon begin. To celebrate this the Sports Committee Chairman of The Royal Canadian Legion, André Paquette, has revealed plans for new gold, silver and bronze medals!

According to Paquette, the new design will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, drawing inspiration from “a classic photo of Canadian troops landing on Juno Beach.” All medials will be etched with this image to celebrate the importance of the 1944 operation.

Yo.ca was ecstatic to hear this news and hopes that all Legion National participants will feel the same.

ariel tessier 2014 legion nationalsWhen the 2014 Youth Track and Field Championships begin Yo.ca will be there - and so will Arielle Tessier.

Tessier, a fifteen-year-old from Maple, has had an extraordinary season. During the Royal Canadian Legion trials in Ontario (July 11 and 12) she captured gold finishes in both the 100 metre and 200 metre sprints. This feat was repeated soon after at the 2014 Ontario Federation of School Athletics Provincial Championships, where Tessier snagged double medals in track and OFSAA recognition.

Metro Regional Midget Girls Champion and CISAA Midget Girls Champion titles soon followed, branding Tessier as one of the most decorated athletes of the year.

And now she has been chosen to join the prestigious RCL Team Ontario, lending her record-breaking speeds and indomitable spirit to the 2014 Legion Nationals.

Yo.ca can’t wait to see what Tessier will accomplish on the track!

jenevieve patry-smith legion nationalsThere will be many participants during the 2014 Youth Track and Field Championships. Boys and girls from across the country will descend upon McLeod Park, hoping to snag medals and records.

Yo.ca is proud to showcase these athletes - and we wish now to highlight Jenevieve Patry-Smith.

Patry-Smith is a 13-year-old member of the Royal City Track and Field Club and, during the Junior Development Meet, she stunned the locals with an exceptional performance - garnering a silver finish in the javelin category and bronze finishes in both the pole vault and shot put categories.

This, combined with an impressive gold finish at the Elwood Wylie Nanaimo Meet in May, ensured Patry-Smith a qualifying position at the 2014 Legion Nationals!

Yo.ca expects great things from this young athlete. We can’t wait to see how she performs at the Langley trials!

mcleod park langley bcOn August 15 the Youth Track and Field Championships will begin, turning McLeod Park into the center of Olympic glory.

On August 14, however, an official practice session will turn it into a necessity.

Athletes - especially those who have never been to McLeod Park - are encouraged to take advantage of a scheduled practice session. From 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. the entire complex will be open, allowing boys and girls to examine the fields, tracks and sports boxes.

This is essential, helping all participants understand where they will compete and how their days will be scheduled. It will also promote more confidence during the games since McLeod Park will no longer be unfamiliar.

Use this time to learn the field and train for greatness!

During the next week Yo.ca will send out several reminders about the August 14 practice session. We want to keep all athletes informed and prepared.

Contact Yo.ca to learn more about this practice session or other Legion National issues.
