Hi Robert,

One of the signal lights on my 2017 Nissan Rogue has started blinking much faster than it used to. Can you tell me if this is a serious issue and whatâ€™s causing it?

Let me start by putting your mind at ease: this isnâ€™t a serious issue. In fact, itâ€™s a very common one. While itâ€™s nothing to worry about, your Nissan Rogue will require some attention.

When the bulbs in your blinkers burn out, the voltage lowers. This takes pressure off the circuit and means it can do its job easier or, rather, faster. So this is whatâ€™s actually happening when your light starts flashing at twice its regular speed.

The fact that it operates like this is actually really useful, as it makes you aware that one of your bulbs needs to be changed. While it's not something to be overly concerned about, don't let this issue drag on. One day it will stop working and, for obvious reasons, that's dangerous.

The bad weather is coming in and I want to make sure I can see regardless of the conditions. So, how do I know when I need new wipers on my 2018 Nissan Armada?

Let me start by saying itâ€™s great to see how proactive you are about this. Far too many people wait until they canâ€™t see a thing to change their wipers. Once your blades start to deteriorate, they no longer make proper contact with the windshield on your Nissan Armada. Youâ€™ll hear it in the form of chatter, squeaks, and skips.

The rule of thumb is, when water begins to get smeared instead of kicked off, itâ€™s time to change them. Generally speaking, your wipers should be replaced every six months to a year. Various factors determine their lifespan but none more so than the climate you live in. If you're worried about snow or ice setting in overnight, pivot your blades forward. This will help ensure they don't become stuck and give you a chance to clear the windshield in the morning.
