new 2019 nissan sentra for sale in bellevue washingtonDear Robert,

I was out in my 2019 Nissan Sentra during heavy rain yesterday and nearly lost control. Do you have any advice on how to drive under these weather conditions?

Thanks,
Amy

Hi, Amy!

I’m sorry to hear about your mishap yesterday. There are a number of driving techniques you can use to keep you and your 2019 Nissan Sentra safe.

The number one thing to do when it’s raining is slow down. On top of this, everything from accelerating to applying the brakes and turning should be done gently and progressively.

Avoid any standing water which has built up on the road, as this could cause you to hydroplane. You should also try to drive in the tracks made by the car ahead of you, as this part of the road will have more grip.

If it's raining, you need to leave a lot more distance between you and the car in front of you. A good tip is to use “only a fool breaks the two-second rule”: say this once when the road is dry and twice in poor weather conditions.

new 2019 nissan LEAF for sale in auburn washingtonDear Robert,

I’m thinking of buying a new 2019 Nissan LEAF but I sometimes need to drive through snowy conditions. Would this model be up to the task?

Thanks,
Dianna

Hi, Dianna!

The 2019 Nissan LEAF is perfectly capable of driving through snow, especially if you opt for the SL model which has a heated steering wheel and seats. But don’t forget, it isn't an all-terrain off-road machine.

The electric powertrain doesn’t affect how this model handles in the snow. And it comes with regular tires just like you’d find on any other car. So it will behave the same way the majority of front-wheel drive vehicles do.

Of course, the LEAF won’t be as good as an all-wheel drive vehicle in the snow, but this has nothing to do with the fact that it’s electric.

The only thing you might want to be aware of is that extremely low temperatures can reduce the LEAF’s battery efficiency by as much as 20%. This would bring its range down from an EPA rated 151 miles to 124 miles.

new 2019 nissan rogue for sale in tacoma washingtonHi Robert,

I was with my friend the other day and her car cut out while we were on the road: luckily she could restart it straight away. What should I do if this happens in my 2019 Nissan Rogue?

Thanks,
Veronica

Hi, Veronica!

I’m happy to hear both you and your friend were ok. I hope this won't happen in your 2019 Nissan Rogue but, if it does, this is what you should do.

Stay calm and guide your car to the side of the road so it doesn’t obstruct traffic. The power steering and brakes won’t work, but you can still control the vehicle: it’ll just be more difficult.

If you’re finding it too difficult to stop the car, you can try using the emergency brake.

Once you've come to a stop, you should try to restart your Rogue. If you’re successful, you need to get it to a repair shop right away.

If you can’t restart your car, you should put your flashers on so that other drivers know you have a problem and don't pass too closely. Then you’ll need to call your local repair shop and get your vehicle towed there ASAP.

Thanks for your question, Veronica! Contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington if you need anything else.

new 2019 nissan sentra for sale in tacoma washingtonDear Robert,

My friend said that it's better to turn my 2019 Nissan Sentra’s traction control off when driving in the snow. But this doesn’t seem right to me: what do you think?

Thanks,
Candice

Hi, Candice!

I think that I understand what your friend is suggesting, although they’re explaining it quite poorly. Don’t go turning your 2019 Nissan Sentra’s traction control off just yet.

Let me start by saying, when you’re driving on ice and snow you need traction control more than ever. This feature ensures you have as much grip as possible while you’re moving. But, if you become stuck in these conditions, you may need to turn the system off.

Traction control applies your car’s brakes when it detects wheelspin. So if the system is functional when you’re trying to pull away from a patch of slippery ice or snow, it could stop forward progression entirely.

The best thing to do in this situation could be to turn the system off and allow your car to gain some forward momentum. Then, once you’re on the move, switch your traction control back on again.

Thanks for the question, Candice! Please don’t hesitate to contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again if you need anything.

new 2018 nissan versa for sale in sumner washingtonHi Robert,

I was having a debate with my friend the other day. I think it’s okay to turn off the traction control on my 2018 Nissan Versa but he said it’s dangerous: who's right?

Thanks,
Steven

Hi, Steven!

While it’s not necessarily dangerous to turn off your 2018 Nissan Versa’s traction control, it isn't a good idea: I’ll explain why.

Your car’s traction control system helps to maintain maximum levels of grip over rough terrain or during poor weather conditions.

The system works by monitoring each tire’s level of grip and then reducing the power sent to that wheel if necessary. Your traction control system can even apply individual brakes.

Studies conducted in the United States, Canada, and Australia found that systems like traction control and ESC reduced the risk of drivers being involved in single-car crashes.

If you turn off this system, it doesn’t automatically make your Versa a dangerous car to drive. But it means you won’t have as much traction in bad weather conditions or an emergency situation.

new 2019 nissan rogue for sale in sumner washingtonDear Robert,

There was some snow on my 2019 Nissan Rogue’s windshield and I used my wipers to get it off. My father told me that this was a bad idea and it that could damage the blades: is he right?

Thanks,
Thomas

Hi, Thomas!

If you want to keep the windshield wipers on your 2019 Nissan Rogue in good working order, you should never use them to clear any significant amount of snow or ice.

Using your wipers to clear snow or ice from your windshield can cause them to bend or skip along the glass. This means they won’t make contact with the entire surface which is a real problem in poor weather conditions.

When your wipers try to move something which poses significant resistance, like snow or ice, it can make the motor fail. It could also cause the spindles to ‘chew’ the teeth where they fit into the arms. Both of these problems would render your blades useless as they’d stop moving.

If any amount of ice or snow builds up on your windshield, the best thing to do is clean it off before you use your wipers.

Thanks for the question, Thomas. Please don’t hesitate to contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again if you need anything.

new 2019 nissan sentra for sale in snohomish washingtonDear Robert,

Recently, there have been some deep puddles on the road I use to get to work. I’m not sure whether it’s a good idea to drive through them in my 2019 Nissan Sentra: what do you think?

Thanks,
Tony

Hi, Tony!

Some people think cars are amphibious and will try to cross almost any body of water. If you want to keep your 2019 Nissan Sentra in good working order, you shouldn’t drive through extremely deep puddles.

Modern cars have relatively low air intakes. When the water level reaches this component, the fluid will be sucked into the engine.

When water enters an engine, it will cause it to seize: the technical term for this is a ‘hydrostatic lock’.

The water enters one or more cylinders during compression which locks the piston in place. This overloads the connection rod and could, ultimately, destroy your Sentra’s engine.

If the body of water you’re driving through is higher than your car’s undertray, I would advise you to find another route.

new 2018 nissan kicks for sale in renton washingtonHi Robert,

I recently drove my new 2018 Nissan Kicks after a snowstorm and noticed it shaking on the highway. This really unnerved me but my friend said it just happens sometimes due to a buildup of ice: is this true?

Thanks,
Carly

Hi, Carly!

It’s certainly true that a snowstorm could cause your 2018 Nissan Kicks to shake but, luckily, it doesn’t produce any long-term damage.

Ice and snow can build up in a car’s spokes during a storm which leads to the wheels becoming unbalanced. This causes the vehicle to shake while driving.

The sensation can be anything from a minor shake to making you think your wheels are going to come off. The problem gets worse at higher speeds, so it makes sense that you would notice it on the highway.

Once the ice melts off your wheels the problem will go away. If the feeling is really unnerving you, use a snow brush to clean between your car’s spokes and this should solve the issue.

Thanks for your question, Carly! Take it easy on the roads and don’t hesitate to contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington if you need anything else.

new 2918 nissan sentra for sale in puyallup washingtonHi Robert,

I regularly take my 2018 Nissan Sentra on camping trips and bring my mountain bike along with four friends. My father says I’m overloading the car and it’s dangerous, do you think he’s right?

Thanks,
Liam

Hi, Liam!

Without knowing how much weight you’re transporting, I can’t say for sure whether or not you’re overloading your 2018 Nissan Sentra. But, if you are exceeding its maximum payload capacity, it's a problem.

Overloading your car causes it to be less stable on the road. It will wallow around corners, have slower acceleration and a longer braking distance. This can make it difficult to safely maneuver your vehicle in an emergency situation.

You're also putting more of a strain on your Sentra’s parts when you carry too much weight. Among other things, the tires will wear faster which could lead to a blowout.

You should also check your insurance policy, as many companies won’t cover you if your car was overloaded at the time of an accident.

Try to get the combined weight of you and your friends along with all the gear. If this exceeds the car’s maximum payload limit, you’ll need to leave some stuff behind.

new 2019 nissan 370z for sale in mill creek washingtonDear Robert,

I’ve just picked up a 2019 Nissan 370Z and my friend suggested that I fit it with braided lines. Is this something I should consider? What would the benefits be?

Thanks,

Andy

Hi, Andy!

Congratulations on picking up the new 2019 Nissan 370Z, it’s a fantastic machine. Braided lines do offer some performance benefits over conventional hoses: let me explain.

The outer wall of a braided line is made from stainless steel which makes it more durable but also expensive. The standard hoses which come on most vehicles are rubber.

The inner wall of these hoses is comprised of Tefl, this means they expand a far less than their rubber counterparts. This translates to a firmer pedal with more feedback and, ultimately, better braking.

The other big advantage braided lines have over rubber ones is that they’re practically bulletproof. Although they could succumb to a pinprick leak, it’s quite rare.

The braking system on the 2019 370Z is already extremely good, so whether or not you feel the need to upgrade is entirely your choice.

Thanks for the question, Andy! Please don’t hesitate to contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again if you need anything else.
