Robert,

My 2011 Nissan Titan has been giving me some serious trouble lately and I’m having issues steering it—it feels stiff and unwieldy. Any thoughts as to the problem?

Appreciate it, Decker

Decker,

Steering issues with vehicles that are starting to get a little “long in the tooth” are not exactly uncommon. Here are a couple of the most likely culprits behind the stiff steering in your 2011 Nissan Titan:

  1. A lack of steering system fluid. Your 2011 Nissan Titan may simply lack the necessary amount of steering fluid—if the levels drop too much, your wheel is going to be effectively fighting you every time you take your pickup out on the road. Lowered steering solution is often a result of a leak in the pressurized hose area or a loosening of that hose that in turn drops the pressure and reduces the power supply.
  2. The steering system fluid in your Titan is too thick. If this is the case, it’s a quality issue, not a quantity problem. Built-up dirt and debris in the fluid may be the issue, requiring the system to be flushed.
