Hi Robert,
My new 2018 Nissan Kicks has spiked my interest in car maintenance. I'm embarrassed to say it but I have no idea what purpose transmission fluid serves: could you enlighten me? My car has an automatic gearbox by the way.
Thanks,
Elizabeth
Hi, Elizabeth!
It’s great to see someone taking an interest in what’s happening underneath their hood. The transmission fluid in your 2018 Nissan Kicks is essential to keeping it everything running correctly.
Transmission fluid is a slippery liquid which acts as a lubricant for all of the moving parts in your gearbox.
In an automatic car, this fluid also acts as a coolant and a viscous liquid which transmits power from the engine to the transmission.
How long you can go before changing your fluid varies depending on what car you drive. For some automatic vehicles, it could be required once the model hits 30,000 miles. However, the typical service interval for this procedure is between 60,000-100,000 miles.
As you'll find in your owners manual, it's recommended you replace the CVT fluid in your 2018 Kicks every 60,000 miles.
Thanks for the question, Elizabeth! Contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again if you need anything else.
