When it comes to heavy-duty trucks, sometimes power doesn’t equate to better performance. Pitting the 2021 Ram 3500 against the 2021 Sierra 3500 is a prime example of this.
Â
Equipped with the standard 6.4-litre HEMI V8 engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission, the Ram 3500 produces 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. If you pop the hood of the Sierra 3500, you will find a 6.6-litre V8 with a 6-speed automatic transmission that makes 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque.
Â
Keep these numbers in mind, the towing capacities of each model are quite different. With the Fifth-Wheel/Gooseneck package, the Ram can pull up to 8,259 kgs (18,210 lbs), and the Sierra can only manage to haul 7,497 kgs (16,530 lbs). That can make a substantial difference on a construction site.
