Most Common Nissan Vehicle Questions In Seattle, Tacoma, And Bellevue Washington
new 2018 nissan kicks for sale in tacoma washingtonDear Robert,

Throughout winter the windows on my 2018 Nissan Kicks were freezing shut. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

Thanks,
Linda

Hi, Linda!

There are a number of ways to stop the windows on your 2018 Nissan Kicks from freezing shut. Just make sure you never pour warm water over them because this can easily crack or even break the glass.

To prevent this from happening, you’ll first need to head down to your local auto parts store and pick up a can of silicone spray and a rag.

Silicone spray can be used to lubricate just about anything and it’s resistant to water which stops ice from forming.

Put your Kicks’ window all the way down and spray the rubber channels on the right, left, and top: a light coating should do the trick. This will keep the material soft and pliable and stop it from sticking to the glass.

Roll the window up and down a few times to spread the solution. Finally, wipe away any excess silicone with your rag.

new 2019 nissan sentra for sale in tacoma washingtonDear Robert,

My friend said that it's better to turn my 2019 Nissan Sentra’s traction control off when driving in the snow. But this doesn’t seem right to me: what do you think?

Thanks,
Candice

Hi, Candice!

I think that I understand what your friend is suggesting, although they’re explaining it quite poorly. Don’t go turning your 2019 Nissan Sentra’s traction control off just yet.

Let me start by saying, when you’re driving on ice and snow you need traction control more than ever. This feature ensures you have as much grip as possible while you’re moving. But, if you become stuck in these conditions, you may need to turn the system off.

Traction control applies your car’s brakes when it detects wheelspin. So if the system is functional when you’re trying to pull away from a patch of slippery ice or snow, it could stop forward progression entirely.

The best thing to do in this situation could be to turn the system off and allow your car to gain some forward momentum. Then, once you’re on the move, switch your traction control back on again.

Thanks for the question, Candice! Please don’t hesitate to contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again if you need anything.

new 2018 nissan versa for sale in sumner washingtonHi Robert,

I was having a debate with my friend the other day. I think it’s okay to turn off the traction control on my 2018 Nissan Versa but he said it’s dangerous: who's right?

Thanks,
Steven

Hi, Steven!

While it’s not necessarily dangerous to turn off your 2018 Nissan Versa’s traction control, it isn't a good idea: I’ll explain why.

Your car’s traction control system helps to maintain maximum levels of grip over rough terrain or during poor weather conditions.

The system works by monitoring each tire’s level of grip and then reducing the power sent to that wheel if necessary. Your traction control system can even apply individual brakes.

Studies conducted in the United States, Canada, and Australia found that systems like traction control and ESC reduced the risk of drivers being involved in single-car crashes.

If you turn off this system, it doesn’t automatically make your Versa a dangerous car to drive. But it means you won’t have as much traction in bad weather conditions or an emergency situation.

new 2018 nissan titan for sale in sumner washingtonHi Robert,

My 2018 Nissan Titan’s A/C won’t blow cold air anymore. A friend of mine thinks that there could be a problem with its condenser: what do you think?

Thanks,
Jason

Hi, Jason!

I’m sorry to hear things are heating up in your 2018 Nissan Titan. But don’t worry, this is a problem which will be gone long before the warm summer weather comes around. Broken or even blocked condensers could certainly stop your A/C unit from blowing cold air.

The air conditioning condenser is located between your vehicle’s grille and engine. Here, gaseous refrigerant loses heat and returns to a liquid state.

The liquid refrigerant then flows through an evaporator which is in your dashboard. Finally, it comes out of the vents and cools your cabin down.

If your condenser becomes blocked or a component in it breaks, it won’t cool the refrigerant meaning there’ll be no cold air.

Unfortunately, your A/C system could have problems blowing cold air if your refrigerant was low or the clutch cycling switch had failed. So I can’t say what the issue is with certainty.

My advice is to call down to our Service Department and let the Technicians have a look at your Titan.

new 2019 nissan rogue for sale in sumner washingtonDear Robert,

There was some snow on my 2019 Nissan Rogue’s windshield and I used my wipers to get it off. My father told me that this was a bad idea and it that could damage the blades: is he right?

Thanks,
Thomas

Hi, Thomas!

If you want to keep the windshield wipers on your 2019 Nissan Rogue in good working order, you should never use them to clear any significant amount of snow or ice.

Using your wipers to clear snow or ice from your windshield can cause them to bend or skip along the glass. This means they won’t make contact with the entire surface which is a real problem in poor weather conditions.

When your wipers try to move something which poses significant resistance, like snow or ice, it can make the motor fail. It could also cause the spindles to ‘chew’ the teeth where they fit into the arms. Both of these problems would render your blades useless as they’d stop moving.

If any amount of ice or snow builds up on your windshield, the best thing to do is clean it off before you use your wipers.

Thanks for the question, Thomas. Please don’t hesitate to contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again if you need anything.

new 2018 nissan kicks for sale in sumner washingtonDear Robert,

My 2018 Nissan Kicks’ exhaust has been sounding much louder recently. Do you think that there’s a problem with the car’s muffler?

Thanks,
Emily

Hi, Emily!

I’m sorry to hear that your 2018 Nissan Kicks is too loud. There are quite a few issues that could cause this but, arguably, the most common is a failing muffler.

Car mufflers tend to take a real beating. They’re exposed to extreme heat and pressure not to mention the road salts and grime. Problems like the one you’re experiencing are often come about due to harsh winter weather.

A vehicle’s muffler will develop holes and cracks over time. When this happens, the car will sound much louder.

When a muffler starts to fail it’s usually accompanied by significantly lower gas mileage and an increase in exhaust fumes.

Unfortunately, a number of other problems could cause your car to sound louder. It's possible that a failing catalytic converter or a leak in the exhaust manifold might be to blame. So I can't say what the issue is for sure.

You should call down to our Service Department and let the Technicians have a look at your Kicks.

new 2019 nissan sentra for sale in sumner washingtonHi Robert,

I’ve noticed that my 2019 Nissan Sentra has been pulling to the right lately. The car is pretty new and I haven’t damaged it, so I don’t know what’s causing the issue: what do you think?

Thanks,
John

Hi John!

When your car starts pulling in a certain direction it can be frightening. But, since your 2019 Nissan Sentra is new and undamaged, it's unlikely that there's anything majorly wrong with it.

Having an under-inflated tire commonly results in this problem. It causes one side of your vehicle to be lower than the other and shifts its alignment.

Under-inflated tires also have a greater roll resistance which further amplifies the problem.

You need to make sure all your tires have the right amount of air in them. If one is under-inflated, then you know what’s causing your Sentra to pull.

If all your tires are correctly inflated, then you should call into our Service Department and let the Technicians have a look at your vehicle as the problem may be more serious.

new 2018 nissan frontier for sale in snohomish washingtonHi Robert,

I was out in my 2018 Nissan Frontier recently when the 'check engine' light came on. I don’t know how serious this is so haven’t driven it since: what should I do?

Thanks,
Emma

Hi, Emma!

Don't be alarmed if the 'check engine' light has come on in your 2018 Nissan Frontier.

This light doesn’t mean you need to pull over whilst driving or call a mechanic straight away. You should, however, do your best to bring the vehicle to a garage at your earliest convenience.

Since the 1980s, computers have been monitoring and, in many ways, controlling vehicles. If a problem is detected with any of your car's systems, the 'check engine' light will turn on.

This light could be triggered by anything from a loose gas tank cap to a faulty oxygen sensor. A mechanic can quickly determine what’s causing the problem through the use of an electronic scan tool. My advice is to call down to our Service Department at your earliest convenience and let the Technicians have a look

new 2019 nissan rogue for sale in snohomish washingtonHi, Robert

The engine check light just came on in my 2019 Nissan Rogue. A friend was in the car at the time and thought there was a smell of gas: he said this could be due to an EVAP leak. Can you explain what that is?

Thanks,
Kelly

Hi, Kelly!

The evaporative emission control system (EVAP) keeps harmful gasoline fumes from escaping your 2019 Nissan Rogue’s tank: this helps to reduce air pollution. From how you’ve described it, it’s possible your car has a leak.

The most common cause of this problem is when people don't close or tighten their gasoline caps correctly or tightly. This is often the case if the check engine light comes on right after you fill up.

The first thing you need to do is check that your tank's cap is properly secured. If it is, there might be a more serious issue with your vehicle. It’s possible that there’s a leak in your hose system or a defective purge valve.

If you can't find out what the problem is by yourself, call down to our Service Department and let the Technicians have a look.

Thanks for the question, Kelly. Contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again if you need anything else.

new 2018 nissan titan xd for sale in snohomish washingtonDear Robert,

I’ve noticed the headlights on my 2018 Nissan Titan XD look somewhat foggy. Do you have any idea what causes this?

Thanks,
Jimmy,

Hi, Jimmy!

There are a number of things which could cause the headlights on your 2018 Nissan Titan XD to become foggy. But don’t worry, it’s something that's easily fixed.

Headlights used to be made out of glass but are now composed of hard plastic which is covered with a clear coat to protect them.

Sooner or later this clear coat will start to fade away, resulting in a foggy headlight. Road salt and pollution will speed up this process.

Even though the clear coat has UV protection, it will still fade at a faster rate if it’s exposed to intense direct sunlight.

If you don’t spend a lot of time in environments which would cause your headlights to fade, the cleaning agent you're using is probably causing the problem: this is something for you to look in to.

If you have some mechanical ability, you can remove the headlights and use sandpaper to strip the foggy layer off. Otherwise, call down to our Service Department and the Technicians will do it for you.
