Most Common Nissan Vehicle Questions In Seattle, Tacoma, And Bellevue Washington
new 2018 nissan frontier for sale in snohomish washingtonHi Robert,

I was out in my 2018 Nissan Frontier recently when the 'check engine' light came on. I don’t know how serious this is so haven’t driven it since: what should I do?

Thanks,
Emma

Hi, Emma!

Don't be alarmed if the 'check engine' light has come on in your 2018 Nissan Frontier.

This light doesn’t mean you need to pull over whilst driving or call a mechanic straight away. You should, however, do your best to bring the vehicle to a garage at your earliest convenience.

Since the 1980s, computers have been monitoring and, in many ways, controlling vehicles. If a problem is detected with any of your car's systems, the 'check engine' light will turn on.

This light could be triggered by anything from a loose gas tank cap to a faulty oxygen sensor. A mechanic can quickly determine what’s causing the problem through the use of an electronic scan tool. My advice is to call down to our Service Department at your earliest convenience and let the Technicians have a look

Thanks for the question, Emma. Please don’t hesitate to contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again if you ever need anything else.

new 2019 nissan rogue for sale in snohomish washingtonHi, Robert

The engine check light just came on in my 2019 Nissan Rogue. A friend was in the car at the time and thought there was a smell of gas: he said this could be due to an EVAP leak. Can you explain what that is?

Thanks,
Kelly

Hi, Kelly!

The evaporative emission control system (EVAP) keeps harmful gasoline fumes from escaping your 2019 Nissan Rogue’s tank: this helps to reduce air pollution. From how you’ve described it, it’s possible your car has a leak.

The most common cause of this problem is when people don't close or tighten their gasoline caps correctly or tightly. This is often the case if the check engine light comes on right after you fill up.

The first thing you need to do is check that your tank's cap is properly secured. If it is, there might be a more serious issue with your vehicle. It’s possible that there’s a leak in your hose system or a defective purge valve.

If you can't find out what the problem is by yourself, call down to our Service Department and let the Technicians have a look.

Thanks for the question, Kelly. Contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again if you need anything else.

new 2018 nissan titan xd for sale in snohomish washingtonDear Robert,

I’ve noticed the headlights on my 2018 Nissan Titan XD look somewhat foggy. Do you have any idea what causes this?

Thanks,
Jimmy,

Hi, Jimmy!

There are a number of things which could cause the headlights on your 2018 Nissan Titan XD to become foggy. But don’t worry, it’s something that's easily fixed.

Headlights used to be made out of glass but are now composed of hard plastic which is covered with a clear coat to protect them.

Sooner or later this clear coat will start to fade away, resulting in a foggy headlight. Road salt and pollution will speed up this process.

Even though the clear coat has UV protection, it will still fade at a faster rate if it’s exposed to intense direct sunlight.

If you don’t spend a lot of time in environments which would cause your headlights to fade, the cleaning agent you're using is probably causing the problem: this is something for you to look in to.

If you have some mechanical ability, you can remove the headlights and use sandpaper to strip the foggy layer off. Otherwise, call down to our Service Department and the Technicians will do it for you.

new 2018 nissan kicks for sale in snohomish washingtonHi Robert,

There has been torrential rain where I live recently. Yesterday I checked my 2018 Nissan Kicks’ transmission fluid via the dipstick and noticed it hadn’t been sealed properly: I’m worried water may have gotten in. What should I do?

Thanks,
Jerry

Hi, Jerry!

There are a couple of ways water could get into your 2018 Nissan Kicks’ transmission fluid. Entering through the dipstick is a possibility, especially if it wasn't sealed properly during heavy rainfall.

If there is water in the transmission, running your engine will continue to mix it and make the problem even worse. So, don't start your Kicks or the gearbox’s components could begin to deteriorate.

If the lining of the clutches in your gearbox absorbs water, it will dissolve the glue which attaches material to the plates. Ultimately this causes total transmission failure and costs a lot to repair.

Even a tablespoon of water is enough to destroy your transmission. If you’re worried some has gotten in, you should have your car towed down to our Service Department and let the Technicians have a look. Remember, it’s very important not to start your engine.

Thanks for the question, Jerry. Contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again if you need anything else.

new 2019 nissan sentra for sale in snohomish washingtonDear Robert,

Recently, there have been some deep puddles on the road I use to get to work. I’m not sure whether it’s a good idea to drive through them in my 2019 Nissan Sentra: what do you think?

Thanks,
Tony

Hi, Tony!

Some people think cars are amphibious and will try to cross almost any body of water. If you want to keep your 2019 Nissan Sentra in good working order, you shouldn’t drive through extremely deep puddles.

Modern cars have relatively low air intakes. When the water level reaches this component, the fluid will be sucked into the engine.

When water enters an engine, it will cause it to seize: the technical term for this is a ‘hydrostatic lock’.

The water enters one or more cylinders during compression which locks the piston in place. This overloads the connection rod and could, ultimately, destroy your Sentra’s engine.

If the body of water you’re driving through is higher than your car’s undertray, I would advise you to find another route.

Thanks for your question, Tony! Please don’t hesitate to contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again if you need anything else.
