Dear Robert,
My friend's car overheated recently and it made me realize that I would have no idea what to do if this happened to me. I’ve just bought a new 2018 Nissan Sentra and don’t want to mess it up. What should I do if I find myself in a similar situation?
Thanks,
Kelsey
Hi, Kelsey!
Knowing what action to take when your car overheats is extremely important. If you don’t follow the correct procedure, this is something which could not only damage your Nissan Sentra but physically harm you too.
If your vehicle overheats, it’s important to find a safe place to pull over within a quarter of a mile. Driving any further with your car in this condition could cause your cylinder head to warp and, ultimately, result in gasket failure.
The most crucial thing to remember is not to go near the hood while the car is this hot. You could easily burn yourself off your engine's components or the steam radiating from it. My advice would be to call a mechanic and get your vehicle towed to your local garage as soon as possible.
Thanks for the question, Kelsey! Don’t hesitate to contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again should you need anything else.
