Hi Robert,

Iâ€™m about to buy a new 2018 Nissan Titan but canâ€™t decide whether to go for the 4x2 or 4x4 version. My friend said I would save money in the long run if I went for the 4x2: is he correct?

Hi, Andrew!

Whatever version of the 2018 Titan you go for, Iâ€™m sure youâ€™ll be extremely satisfied. But, for all intents and purposes, your friend is right about the 4x2 version saving you money.

Since the 4x2 model has a lower production cost, its base price is cheaper. Mechanically, there's more going on underneath the 4x4 which makes it more expensive.

The additional heavy-duty parts on the 4x4 model add weight to it. So, since the 4x2 version is lighter, it gets better gas mileage; if you own this vehicle for a while and do a lot of driving, you will notice a difference at the pumps.

Finally, 4x4 vehicles tend to have a higher cost of ownership as there are more parts to maintain. This also means there are extra things which may need to be repaired or replaced over time.
