Have you heard the news? The 2018 Nissan Kicks is one of the most pleasant surprises of the year, according to Mark Phelan of the Detroit Free Press. The vehicle is described by the reporter as both “SUV adjacent” and a “compact station wagon.”

Phelan suggests that consumers actually wanted more vehicles like the Kicks, but automakers began to remove them from their lineups during the Great Recession. Demand has taken its toll, though, and brands like Nissan are starting to repopulate their offerings with small SUV or hatchback-type vehicles that have chic colors and sporty details.

The Kicks is less expensive than even the compact cars of some competitors, making it a great choice. Its front-wheel drive, continuously variable transmission is mated to a 125-horsepower, naturally aspirated, 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine. It has a higher roof and more ground clearance than many vehicles in its class, which also means great visibility and an easy time getting in and out of the automobile.

Plenty of leg and
head room, stunning athletic lines, and the option to have a two-tone exterior all appeal to a young market. In addition, technology like a touch screen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto make it easy for drivers to access their music and stay connected.
