Have you heard the news? Nissan has unveiled a new Leaf! This vehicle, called the Leaf NISMO RC, is an electric race car. It’s equipped with “advanced battery technology and drivetrain components from†its namesake automobile. However, the automakers modified its powertrain so that it would work with dual motors. Unfortunately, that feature isn’t available on any model available to consumers.
One of the biggest deterrents that potential buyers say stops them from purchasing an electric car is the battery. Most people get nervous about finding a place to replenish the energy stores and end up talking themselves out of getting one. No one wants to be stranded!
Nissan is partnering with Dongfeng Motor to bring 20 all-new electrified vehicles to China. In this joint-venture known as Electrek, the Japanese automaker is hard at work designing innovative EV’s. They are also developing e-POWER powertrains which function like hybrids with a gas generator and a battery pack. These specific models will not need to be plugged in to charge. The goal of this enterprise is the help lower carbon dioxide emissions in Asia.
For the last 26 years, the Nissan Foundation has been focused on giving back to local communities. For 2018, they are awarding $730,000 in grants to 29 non-profit organizations across the United States. In almost three decades, they have given over $10 million to 120 different groups that promote respect and understanding among varying cultures and ethnicities. Recipients for this round of donations are located in California, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Tennessee and Texas.
You are probably aware by now that Nissan is a front-runner on the global market for environmentally-friendly vehicles. Innovation, style, and creativity go into every model that comes out of the factories. It should come as no surprise that the Japanese automaker will be partaking in this year’s upcoming Formula E electric street racing championship. Kicking off in December, Season 5 competitors will have to find a way to beat the company’s NISMO and EV technologies on the racetrack.
