Have you heard the news? Nissan has unveiled a new Leaf! This vehicle, called the Leaf NISMO RC, is an electric race car. Itâ€™s equipped with â€œadvanced battery technology and drivetrain components fromâ€ its namesake automobile. However, the automakers modified its powertrain so that it would work with dual motors. Unfortunately, that feature isnâ€™t available on any model available to consumers.

The Leaf NISMO RC includes two electric motors that are able to produce 240 kilowatts combined (120 kW each) and 640 Nm of instant torque to the wheels. According to Nissan, thatâ€™s more than double the version of this vehicle that was introduced in 2011 and based on the first generation consumer model.

While you canâ€™t get the electric race car version for yourself, you can own a 2018 Nissan Leaf S! This one relies on a portable 120V/240V cable for charging, and its lithium ion battery provides 6.6 kW in the car. Plug in for just a half hour and you can expect to travel as many as 90 miles in this sedan.

A recent review of the 2018 Nissan Leaf is overwhelmingly positive. The writer took his vehicle on a cider doughnut tour, stopping in a variety of places across the northeast to find the best autumnal treats. While doing so, he made notes on the vehicleâ€™s efficiency and performance.

When they started out on their quest for doughnuts, the reviewer noted that the Leaf showed 159 miles of range and 99 percent battery efficiency. They planned to cover just 121 miles, and the auto is rated for 151. It was only 45 degrees out that day, though, which the article noted could hurt the range of the car. It ended up rising to 61 degrees by the end of the afternoon, however.

The reviewer loved his doughnuts, and he also seemed to love the Leaf. He raved about the heated seats and steering wheel, and everyone in the car was comfortable for all 5.5 hours of their trip. They ended up covering 114 miles in total and had 24 remaining by the time they got home.

Did you know that the Nissan Leaf is getting a reboot in Japan? For 2019, the automaker released a cool new version of the electric vehicle that features a Nismo engine. You might recall having seen this brand associated with other cars in the lineup, like the 370Z.

In addition to the Nismo engine, the new Japanese Leaf will feature an updated computer offering better acceleration. In addition, the tires and suspension have been redesigned to be more performance-oriented.

The Nismo Leaf will appear a bit different from its stateside counterpart, with alternative wheels, a splitter/diffuser combination, and the option of two-tone exterior paint. Thereâ€™s also a cool rally light on the bottom of the vehicle. Inside, youâ€™ll also find red and gray accents and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.
