There’s a reason the 2018 Nissan Versa Note is so popular with Seattle area commuters and that’s its fuel efficiency. Its lightweight frame, small engine size and a Twin Continuously Variable Timing Control (CVTC) System are made for driving, but without costing motorists a fortune in gas.
Â
Anchoring the powertrain is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, which outputs 109 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque. To enhance its performance, the powerplant features a host of smart technologies, including a dual fuel injector system that allows for a wider booster of fuel with smaller nozzles delivering a spray that's about 57 percent finer than single injector systems. According to Nissan, this design allows the Versa Note to achieve better combustion and power.
Â
Then there’s the CVTC System, which is mounted on the intake and exhaust ports. Combined, this allows for a few key benefits – namely increased thermal efficiency, decreased inhalation resistance, and approximately four percent better fuel economy compared to previous model year Versa Notes. Mated to Nissan’s next-gen Xtronic transmission, this hot hatch achieves a cool 31 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway, which is incredible.
