Hey, Seattle! The 2018 Nissan LEAF is almost here—it’s due to arrive early this year—and it’s bringing smart technology along with it. ProPILOT Assist functionality is set to change the way you drive.
The all-electric, zero-emissions 2018 Nissan LEAF utilizes the aforementioned ProPILOT Assist’s driving functionality to advance the way Seattleites and those the world over commute. Traffic Aware Cruise Control (TACC) detects cars traveling to the front of your vehicle once you pick a speed, and then intelligently adjusts your setting up or down as necessary to compensate for the automobiles around you.
TACC is superb, but that isn’t the only clever trick ProPILOT Assist has up its sleeve. Because it’s semi-autonomous, it will keep the LEAF centered within its lane when the feature is activated via the handy blue button on the steering wheel. And although Nissan still considers it a “hands-on†system, it will even handle stop-and-go traffic for you. What a boon for those dealing with pesky morning commutes!

You’ve heard us chatting about the Consumer Electronics Show in this space before, and today we wanted to bring all you tech enthusiasts a little more information about the Japanese automaker’s scheduled appearance this upcoming year. The Las Vegas event, set to kick off on January 9, will mark the reiteration of the manufacturer’s commitment to Intelligent Mobility as well as the U.S. debut of the IMx concept vehicle.
One of the technologies Nissan will have on display at CES 2018 is their ProPILOT Assist. It’s a progressive adaptive cruise control system that’s set to move the industry forward with its inclusion on upcoming vehicles, including the all-new LEAF. It imbues an automobile with the ability to automatically manage its distance from any car traveling ahead, selectively braking to maintain proper separation. However, it also keeps the machine centered within its lane, adjusting steering as necessary. Fantastic!

The IMx concept vehicle is set to wow, too. It offers fully autonomous driving via its PD mode. With that selected, the wheel stows away, all seats recline, and the computer takes over completely. Nissan’s wonder car automatically takes you to your destination, accelerating, braking, and steering all the way.
Consumers that make their purchases and run their lives with the welfare of the environment in mind continue to turn to Nissan. That fact has been underscored this week with the company’s recognition in the CDP’s 2017 Global Water Report as an “A list†business for H20 stewardship. Additionally, the automaker garnered a “Leadership-level†rating in the same body’s climate change assessment for the fourth consecutive year.
Previously known as the Carbon Disclosure Project, the CDP annually ranks global companies for their efforts in reducing CO2 emissions and effectively managing water usage. Out of greater than 2,000 businesses surveyed, Nissan was one of only 74 that made this year’s “A list†for H20 management. The honor comes as the automaker continues to promote usage reductions across all their production facilities via savvy tech and supply-chain optimizations.
Nissan is now working to reduce “well-to-wheel†CO2 emissions in both their conventional gasoline and progressive electric vehicles. The goal is to have the year 2000 levels shrunk by 90% by 2050. Further technology initiatives, such as expanding vehicle charging infrastructure in cities for the LEAF, will help make this possible.
Sometimes, folks in a big city need the convenience of short-term, on-demand car rental services. As part of their Intelligent Mobility initiative, Nissan is stepping up to the plate in Japan with a vehicle-sharing club that is poised to show off their myriad of advanced technologies.
Beginning on January 15, 2017, Nissan’s car-sharing service, e-share mobi, will begin operation at 30 locations throughout Kyoto, Shiga, Nara, Tokyo, and other Japanese prefectures. The automaker will leverage their fleet of Note e-POWER and LEAF vehicles to bring their electric and autonomous driving systems to the masses.
Nissan’s e-share mobi carries no monthly membership fee and zero distance-based fees. Instead, users can register and use the service on their own terms, with their license acting as their club card. Both the LEAF and Note e-POWER vehicles will provide consumers with the manufacturer’s ProPILOT autonomous driving technology and “Around View Monitor,†offering a virtual bird’s-eye look from above the car. If you're planning a trip to Japan, applications can be filled out here.
We’ll keep you updated as to whether such a car-sharing service makes it to Seattle and other American cities. In the interim, don’t hesitate to give us a call to discuss Nissan’s ProPILOT technology!
This year’s Dubai International Motor Show offered car enthusiasts in the Middle East the opportunity to witness the future of Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility initiative. Two of the all-electric wonder cars on display were the 2018 LEAF and the prototype BladeGlider.
Nissan Intelligent Mobility is set to make the world safer and more efficient through self-driving technology and all-electric design, and the next-generation 2018 LEAF represents the initiative perfectly. Unveiled for the first time in the Middle East, the vehicle has been selected as the Official Automotive Partner for Expo 2020 Dubai and has been branded accordingly. When it releases early next year in Seattle and elsewhere, the car will come packed with an engine capable of 147 horses and 236-lb.-ft. of torque.
Alongside the LEAF was the futuristic BladeGlider. While only a prototype, it exists to provide the public with an idea of where Nissan Intelligent Mobility is going in the future, whether you live in Seattle, Dubai, or elsewhere. Donning a sports car design, the fascinating vehicle merges an exhilarating open-top structure with the safety of a coupe. Early models have been powered by a five-module lithium-ion battery rated at 220kW.
Earlier this month, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. revealed their intentions to join forces with Expo 2020 Dubai to push forward the future of autonomous driving machines.
Announced at the Expo 2020 Dubai’s Official Premier Partner event, the union is set to advance Intelligent Mobility with a new fleet of upcoming all-electric vehicles. The Japanese automaker will act as the Official Automotive Partner for the event that year, showcasing their technologies and pushing the adoption of efficient cars throughout the region.
The Expo 2020 Dubai Nissan fleet is set to feature the support of roughly 1,000 vehicles, both in preparation and delivery of the event. Trucks, buses, cars, and SUVs will all be used for the proceedings. Usage will vary but will include display purposes, VIP visits, participant and organizer transport, and construction needs.
Also at the Official Premier Partner event, Nissan unveiled the next-generation LEAF for Middle Eastern markets. The 2018 model will feature an efficient 40-kilowatt lithium-ion battery and a 150-mile range, as well as advanced technologies such as ProPILOT Assist for adaptive cruise control and single lane autonomous driving.
We’ve covered the 2018 Nissan LEAF’s upcoming performance in great detail, but did you realize how affordable this all-electric vehicle is relative to its technology? The hatchback is a sensational car that is prepared to get only better.
The performance for the 2018 Nissan Leaf is assured. Even the base model of the vehicle will achieve 150 miles of range, which represents an improvement of 43 miles over the 2017 model. This is managed via a 40-kilowatt lithium-ion battery. And speed is in abundance, too. The electric engine on this impressive car supplies 147 HP and 236-lb.-ft. of torque.
Despite eclipsing the previous variant in power and range, the 2018 LEAF will come in at an extremely reasonable price of only $30,875. Notably, that includes the destination charge. This means that not only is it a performance wonder, but it also manages to shockingly arrive at a lower entry point than the 2017 model. Sensational!

Nissan has some lofty goals in the next six years. The Japanese automaker, in conjunction with Renault and Mitsubishi, recently birthed an “Alliance 2022†strategy. The mission? To guide the behemoth into the future with an aggressive line of tactics that include a strong focus on electric automobile technology.
The strategy, as outlined by chairman and CEO of the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance, Carlos Ghosn, introduces the following measures:
The development of commonly shared, scalable electric car platforms
The creation of electric engines and batteries for vehicles including the LEAF
The reduction of battery costs by 30-percent
The introduction of batteries with greater than 372 miles of range
The design of plug-in hybrid powertrains expressly developed for larger vehicles
A shared cloud platform that will manage data across various interfaces
A deployment of a total of 12 electric cars Self-driving systems for more than 40 models of cars
While the planned measures are aggressive, at Kirkland Nissan of Seattle, we believe they are within reach in the aforementioned 2022 timeframe. Exciting times lie ahead!
Get ready, Seattle! The 2018 Nissan LEAF, due for debut early next year, is already stacking up international awards. The first honor for this incredible all-electric, zero-emission vehicle comes courtesy of the Consumer Electronics Show’s (CES) “Unveiled†ceremony.
At the special event, the 2018 LEAF garnered the “Best of Innovation†award in the “Vehicle Intelligence and Self-Driving Technology†segment. Additionally, it was the convention’s honoree in the “Tech for a Better World†category. The distinctions come ahead of the annual January CES main show in Las Vegas, where Nissan will have the futuristic car on full display for eager event goers.
The LEAF’s “Best of Innovation†award reflects Nissan’s savvy approach through the leveraging of its ProPILOT Assist technology, which brings adaptive cruise control and single-lane semi-autonomous driving functionality to the hatchback. The car’s all-new engine for 2018 will also thrill owners by delivering 147 horses and 236-lb.-ft. of torque.
Green Car Reports has the upcoming next-generation Nissan LEAF as one of their finalists for “Best Car to Buy 2018.†Why? Well, in a pinch, it comes down to affordability, great styling, and superior performance.
“If any electric car aside from the Tesla Model 3 can be called "long-awaited," it would be the redesigned 2018 Nissan Leaf,†says Green Car Reports. Their contention is a fair one—the redesigned all-electric vehicle is set to make a splash with high technology that comes at a base price of just $30,875—$7,000 less than a Chevy Bolt EV. And with that low cost comes the pleasure of a redesigned exterior that’s sportier, more upright, and at home among the manufacturer’s other hatchback options.
Performance in the 2018 LEAF is also set to be superlative. The new electric engine will wow with 147 horses and 236-lb.-ft. of torque. This represents an increase over the previous year of tremendous proportion. There’s now 40 HP and 49-lb.-ft. torque more than experienced previously.
