Nissan has some lofty goals in the next six years. The Japanese automaker, in conjunction with Renault and Mitsubishi, recently birthed an “Alliance 2022†strategy. The mission? To guide the behemoth into the future with an aggressive line of tactics that include a strong focus on electric automobile technology.
The strategy, as outlined by chairman and CEO of the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance, Carlos Ghosn, introduces the following measures:
The development of commonly shared, scalable electric car platforms
The creation of electric engines and batteries for vehicles including the LEAF
The reduction of battery costs by 30-percent
The introduction of batteries with greater than 372 miles of range
The design of plug-in hybrid powertrains expressly developed for larger vehicles
A shared cloud platform that will manage data across various interfaces
A deployment of a total of 12 electric cars Self-driving systems for more than 40 models of cars
