Great news, Nissan Altima fans! The all-new, sixth-generation sedan was recently named a Motor Trend Car of the Year Contender – an annual honor given by the magazine to recognize the best new or significantly refreshed cars in a model year.
Â
Redesigned for 2019, the next-gen Altima sets a new standard for Nissan sedans by offering ProPILOT Assist technology, two new engines and the first available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive on the automaker’s car line-up in the United States. These additions are key to the Altima’s recognition by Motor Trend.
Â
ProPILOT Assist is being offered as standard equipment on the 2019 Altima’s SV, SL and Platinum grades. It acts as a single-lane "hands-on" driving assistance technology that eases a motorist’s workload by reducing the amount of acceleration, steering and braking input under certain driving conditions. It is complemented by Rear Automatic Braking, which detects stationary objects when in reverse and applies the brakes (if necessary) to avoid a collision.Â
Â
Under the hood, the 2019 Altima comes with the choice of a 2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine (with 248 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque) or a 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine (rated at 188 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque). The latter powerplant is equipped with the new Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, offering year-round handling confidence, no matter what Mother Nature throws our way.
