2019 nissan leaf for sale in tacoma kirkland bellevue renton washingtonWorld’s best-selling. Earth-loving. Electric-driving. All three terms are ways to describe the 2019 Nissan Leaf. But, we can add another phrase to the list as well – and that’s award-winning. Drive.com.au recently announced its winners for their Car of the Year Awards and the Leaf zipped off with the coveted Car of the Year Green Innovation honor.

Comprised of a panel of seven expert judges, Drive.com.au acknowledged the Leaf for its abilities beyond its plug and play capabilities – specifically, the capacity for the EV’s battery to deliver energy back into the household grid.

"There are significant advantages in driving an electric car, but the Nissan Leaf takes those benefits beyond the driving experience with the ability to save money when it's in the driveway," said Andrew Maclean, editor in chief of the Drive Network in a press release. "The Nissan Leaf-to-Home function makes the electric car more appealing than ever."

Leaf-to-Home technology makes it possible to store surplus solar power in the battery during the daytime and then use it to power the home in the evening. Drivers can also recharge the battery in the middle of the night, when prices are typically more affordable, then use the electricity during the day to reduce energy costs. Leaf-to-Home also enables the EV to meet typical household electricity needs for up to two days if the power is disrupted. In emergency situations, this could prove very useful.

Aside from its uses off the road, the 2019 Leaf certainly provides a top-shelf driving experience. The powertrain boasts a 110 kW electric motor and a 40 kWh Lithium-ion battery for a 150-mile range. With its dynamic design and advanced technologies, including ProPILOT Assist and ePedal, the Leaf continues to give Seattle drivers even more compelling reasons to make the switch to plug-in power for greater efficiency and zero-emission performance.
