Following Nissan taking the stage earlier this month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, it didn’t take the media but for a moment to stand up and take notice of their ambitious plans. Specifically, CNN came away thoroughly impressed by the automaker’s commitment to electric vehicles (EV).
Nissan, as they warmly reminded their readers, is behind the creation of the current best-selling EV on the market to date—the LEAF. However, it is admittedly the company’s only widely available electric machine. That said, the publication is impressed that CEO Carlos Ghosn and the brain trust at the Japanese corporation are primed to change that, announcing plans for eight more electric cars by 2022.
In fact, Nissan took advantage of the auto show to reveal the new LEAF e+ in the interim ahead of 2022. The fresh model offers increased energy density via a 62 kWh battery pack and high-output powertrain that boosts range by roughly 50 percent versus other LEAF variants. The new machine can go up to 226 miles on a single charge.
