CNBC came away fascinated by Nissan’s bold move toward vehicle electrification as announced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. In fact, the press outlet considered it a direct challenge to Tesla.
The automaker has announced wide-sweeping plans for electrification across their lines. Aside from the range-increased revelation that is the LEAF e+, Nissan will now bring eight more electric cars to market by 2022. However—and more importantly to CNBC—there also lies the stated goal of Nissan's North American CEO to not only bring these machines to dealerships but to offer a "complete reinterpretation†of zero-emission auto design in the process.
Part of accomplishing the above is removing the traditional engine compartment altogether. In the case of the new IMs electric concept shown off at NAIAS, the motors, drivetrain, and battery packs are all under the load floor. This condensed design allows for a “cab-forward†construction that supplies greater passenger room. Further, the concept draws its interior design inspiration from the modern Japanese home, offering high-level craftsmanship through the use of innovative materials, including fabrics and hues that are darkened to imitate shadow and moonlight.
All in all, the press is absolutely buzzing about Nissan’s plans. Give us a call today to discuss them in further detail!
