Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Nissan has turned its iconic 370Z Roadster into a snowmobile. That’s right – a snowmobile. Dubbed the 370Zki – pronounced “370-Ski" – the 332-horsepower concept will make its world debut this week at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show.
Â
And what better place to unveil a snowmobile-inspired vehicle than in the “Windy City†in the dead of winter. Should Chicago get plummeted with a blizzard, the 370Zki will have no trouble carving its way through deep powder to reach McCormick Place.
Â
However, transforming a stock 370Z to the 370Zki was not easy. To make room for the rear DOMINATOR Tracks, the Roadster’s entire drivetrain had to be removed. Next came the fabrication of custom mountings for the rear suspension springs and three-inch custom spacers to install the snow tracks to the wheel hubs. The 370Z’s brakes were retained, but the lines had to be rerouted and the exhaust system was modified to fit under the vehicle. The rear wheel wells were also altered for clearance of the four-foot-long snow tracks.Â
Â
On the exterior, Nissan kept its cosmetic changes to a minimum, opting to wrap the 370Zki to resemble ski goggles. Watch as it is put through its paces on the slopes in Wyoming:
