When searching the market for a comprehensive compact crossover that offers a high performance, you should set your sights on the 2022 Jeep Compass. Standing up against the 2022 Hyundai Kona, it offers more standard power for superior capabilities. Plus, you can get one right now at O’Connor Chrysler in Chilliwack, BC.
Â
The base engine for the Hyundai Kona is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder. Combined with FWD and a continuously variable transmission (CVT), it generates only 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque. While it is not recommended to tow anything with this powertrain, you really shouldn’t exceed 453 kg (1,000 lbs) of weight with an attachment.
Â
On the other hand, the Jeep Compass uses a 2.4-litre Tigershark MutliAir Inline-4 motor that churns out 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. While the Sport trim level comes with a 4x2 system, the Trailhawk is equipped with a rock-eating 4x4 drivetrain and Selec-Terrain Traction Management. This adds modes such as Sand/Mud, Auto, Snow, and Rock to improve the ride experience depending on the path you are on. You can also haul up to 907 kg (2,000 lbs) effortlessly.

If you are searching for a compact crossover that doesn’t compromise on power, then you need to turn your attention to the 2022 Jeep Compass. Compared to models such as the 2022 Kia Seltos, it has much to offer in terms of strength and capability.
Â
Every Compass model is equipped with a 2.4-litre Tigershark MultiAir Inline-4 engine that delivers 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. Paired with your choice of either a 6- or 9-speed automatic transmission, it can tow up to 907 kgs (2,000 lbs) with ease. That is almost unheard of for this vehicle class. You can also select between 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains and add Selec-Terrain Traction Management for improved off-roading.
Â
As for the competing Kia Seltos, it can be fitted with one of two motors. The standard is a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder that makes 146 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque. Partnered with AWD and a continuously variable transmission, it proves weaker than the Compass; and, if you opt for the Night Edition trim level, the block will be upgraded to a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder that produces 175 hp - making it the lesser option still.
