If gasoline isn’t your cup of tea for a super-duty truck, then you may want to know more about the diesel options. The new 2021 Ram 3500 offers a class-leading performance that other competitors - like the 2021 Ford F-350 - can’t touch.
Â
Roaring underneath the hood of the Ram is a 6.7-litre High-Output turbo-diesel Inline-6 engine. Using a 6-speed automatic transmission, it delivers 420 hp and an astonishing 1,075 lb-ft of torque. Due to this extreme capability, it can haul up to 16,828 kg (37,100 lbs) without breaking a sweat.
Â
Switching gears for a moment, you will find a comparable 6.7-litre Power Stroke turbo-diesel V8 on the Ford. It offers 475 hp, but it can only push out 1,050 lb-ft of torque. While the maximum towing capacity can vary greatly depending on the cab configuration, it is limited to about 9,071 kg (20,000 lbs).

When it comes to heavy-duty pickups, the performance output can make all the difference in the world. Comparing the new 2021 Ram 3500 to the 2021 Ford F-350, you can see how these two models size up against each other.
Â
Popping the hood of the Ram 3500, you will find the robust 6.4-litre HEMI V8. Using a multi-displacement system and a 6-speed automatic transmission, it pumps out a best-in-class 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. Fitted with the Fifth-Wheel/Gooseneck Prep Group, it can pull up to 8,259 kg (18,210 lbs).
Â
On the other hand, the 2021 Ford F-350 comes standard with a 6.2-litre V8 motor. Producing 385 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, it simply can’t best the Ram. Since it is a smaller powertrain, the towing limit is quite a bit lower too. It can only handle up to 5,896 kg (13,000 lbs).
