If you are a parent of a young driver, you know just how important it is for your child to have a reliable and safe set of wheels. After all, students lead very busy lives – from school and work to social and extracurricular activities, they need a vehicle that can keep up with them (and one that you can feel good about them driving).

That car is the 2017 Nissan Versa Note.

For the fifth consecutive year in a row, it was named one of the top 10 best back-to-school vehicles of 2017 by the automotive experts at Kelley Blue Book. They chose this subcompact hatchback for its surprising combination of roominess, versatility, appealing options, and the lowest price of any other option on the top 10 list.

And with a starting MSRP of $15,480, the 2017 Versa Note is extremely affordable for a decently equipped model. The base S Plus comes standard with air conditioning, power mirrors, a four-speaker AM/FM/CD/Aux audio system, tilt wheel, trip computer, Bluetooth, front disc/rear drum brakes, and 15” steel wheels with covers. It is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), which outputs 109 horsepower, 107 lb-ft of torque, and an EPA rating of 31 MPG in the city and 39 MPG on the highway.

If your son or daughter fancies a few more options, the next-step SV offers power windows and door locks, a USB input for the audio system, keyless entry, cruise control, and a rearview camera. Or there is the SR, which comes standard with aluminum-alloy wheels and a sportier appearance with fog lights. Capping off the trim levels is the top-of-the-line SL, which is equipped with push-button ignition, a touch-screen audio system with navigation, and an around-view monitoring system. Even if your young driver opts for the SL trim, you can still expect to pay under $20K, which is quite impressive.
