By now, you've heard all of the amazing things that the Nissan Leaf can do: it eliminates gas costs with its plug-in performance, it can drive 150 miles on a single charge, and it can even let motorists accelerate, decelerate and stop their car by using the accelerator pedal alone. All pretty impressive, right?

Well, now, the Leaf is up to its latest endeavor - partaking in the Electric Explorer African Challenge 2018, which is the first-ever EV expedition across Africa.

Driven by Polish traveler, Arkady PaweÅ‚ Fiedler, and accompanied by photographer Albert WÃ³jtowicz, the two men will traverse great distances in an unmodified Leaf, starting in Western Africa and finally crossing western Europe to their home country. Poor road conditions, limited charging infrastructure and dramatically diverse weather conditions are sure to make their trek a challenge, but the adventurers are confident.Â

"We're optimistic," said Fiedler in a press release. "As part of the tests, I've already travelled over 4,000 kilometers in Poland in a Nissan Leaf, and I'm positively surprised by the driving range offered."

Apart from being the first ever EV journey across the African continent, the expedition also aims to raise awareness of plug-in technologies that are now available to the masses. The goal is to show consumers that they have a choice - all of which has a great impact on the earth and our environment.
