Take the 2021 Dodge Durango and the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Each model offers the same powertrain lineup; however, the top-tier trims have different outputs. Which one is more powerful? The answer may surprise you!

The Durango SRT Hellcat and the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk are both fitted with the d 6.2-litre HEMI V8 engine. Partnered with an 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD, you might expect the numbers to be identical. But that isn’t the case.

The SRT Hellcat delivers 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque, and the Trackhawk generates 707 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. While the difference is only 3 hp, the result is that the Durango is stronger and faster.

On an acceleration course, the Durango was able to go from zero to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, and the Grand Cherokee came in at 3.5 seconds. In other words, it will win in a race every time.

With the engine lineup available on the 2021 Dodge Durango, you can easily see how this ride is superior to others in its class such as the 2021 Mazda CX-9. Plus, you can take on home today when you visit O’Connor Chrysler in BC.

The Mazda CX-9 is offered with a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder that pushes out 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Mated with a six-speed automatic transmission and your choice of FWD or AWD, there is nothing exciting about it.

However, the Dodge Durango is available with four different motor options. The first is Canada’s favourite 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 that delivers 295 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Next is the 5.7-litre V8 that generates 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. Moving up to the SRT trims, you will find the 6.4-litre V8 producing 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. Finally, the supercharged 6.2-litre V8 churns out a staggering 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque.
