Dear Robert,

I know youâ€™re supposed to get unbalanced tires fixed, but I donâ€™t understand why. What problems would they cause my 2018 Nissan Rogue?

Youâ€™re supposed to take care of this issue when you notice it, but youâ€™d be surprised how many people donâ€™t. Below are some of the long and short-term problems caused by driving with unbalanced tires.

When your car in good working order, it rides smoothly. But, once your tires become unbalanced, you'll start to notice vibrations throughout the vehicle. This could make your 2018 NissanÂ Rogue hard to control, even on well-maintained roads.

If you leave this problem unchecked, the vibrations will cause excessive wear and tear on your entire wheel assembly. So you could find that you need to replace your shocks or bearings faster than you usually would.

Your tires will also start to wear out unevenly. This issue, combined with the lack of balance, makes your vehicle more susceptible to sudden blowouts. So it won't just hurt your bank account to drive like this, it's outright dangerous.

Hi, James!

Checking the engine oil in your 2018 Nissan Kicks is a simple process. All you need to do is follow the steps I've outlined below.

Firstly, make sure the engine is cold. If you have been driving beforehand, it may take one or two hours to cool down. Apart from the possibility that you could burn yourself, it may give a false reading if it's warm.

Next, lift your vehicleâ€™s hood and look for the lid with a picture of an oil canister on it: you need to pop this off. Youâ€™ll notice that thereâ€™s a dipstick on the underside of it with maximum and minimum level indicators.

This dipstick will be covered in engine oil, so youâ€™ll need to wipe it down. After this, place it back into the container you took it from.

Now take the dipstick out again and see how much of it is covered in engine oil. If itâ€™s below the minimum marker, you need to top your Kicks up.

I recently purchased a new 2018 Nissan Rogue Sport and Iâ€™m delighted with it. Soon, Iâ€™ll be driving across the country to see my family for the holidays: Iâ€™m slightly worried about getting a flat as itâ€™s such a long journey. Could you guide me through changing a tire?

Hi, Bell!

Donâ€™t worry about it, changing the tire on your 2018 NissanÂ Rogue Sport really isnâ€™t a big deal. If you do get a flat, pull over to a safe location, turn your hazards on, and apply the parking brake. Then use wheel wedges if you have them.

After this, you can loosen the lug nuts with a wrench by twisting counterclockwise, but donâ€™t take them off completely. Then place a jack under the carâ€™s frame next to where your flat is. After you have positioned it correctly, raise the vehicle up.Â

Now you can fully unscrew the nuts and take off the wheel. Next, you can mount your spare tire on the lug bolts.

Finally, tighten the nuts back on by twisting clockwise. After this, lower your vehicle to the ground.

Before you set off, make sure all the lug nuts are tight and everything is secure.

Hi, Tom!

It's never good to run out of wiper fluid, but winter is an especially bad time. Donâ€™t worry though, topping up your 2018 Nissan TitanÂ will be a piece of cake.

Firstly, park your truck on a level surface and pop its hood. Then, you'll need to find the reservoir: it's usually a translucent container and has a windshield/water symbol on the cap.

Take the cap off the reservoir and pour your windshield washer fluid in. Keep going until you reach the fill line on the container.

Next, put the cap back on the container and press down until it pops into place. Lastly, clean off any liquid which may have spilled in your engine bay and close your hood.

Itâ€™s important to only use windshield washer fluid for this, as it has an antifreeze agent in it ensuring itâ€™ll continue to flow even through winter.

Iâ€™m just after picking up a new 2018 Nissan Versa and couldnâ€™t be happier. I have to be honest and say Iâ€™ve never taken very good care of my cars before, but they seemed to run just fine. My father always tells me to keep my engine oil topped up, but what would happen if I ran out?

Well, Iâ€™m happy to hear your lack of maintenance hasnâ€™t caused you any serious problems before. But the Nissan Versa is a great model, so letâ€™s try to look after it. The oil in your engine is what keeps the fast moving parts sliding smoothly instead of grinding against each other.

If your oil gets seriously low these parts will produce extreme heat as they rub off each other. Eventually, these components will fuse together, resulting in a seized engine.

Generally speaking, seized engines aren't cheap to fix. There's also the possibility that the damage will be irreparable, meaning youâ€™ll need to get a replacement. Either way, this type of issue produces a considerable bill.

You should get your car serviced at the recommended intervals: this will help ensure none of your liquids get too low. If the oil warning light comes on in your Versa between visits to the shop, you'll need to top up the engine as soon as possible.

Your father sounds like a wise man. Having good spark plugs is essential to keeping your engine happy and healthy. And, yes, if you donâ€™t change them regularly enough, it could cause your car to shake.

Controlled miniature explosions are, essentially, what keeps a car running. When your spark plugs wear out, itâ€™s harder for the air-fuel mixture to ignite in your Versaâ€™s cylinders. Ultimately, this leads to misfires and a shaky, rough sounding engine.

If this is the cause of your problem, it would be a good idea to get it fixed as soon as you can. The vibrations brought about by your misfires make the components around them wear out at a faster rate, including at your engineâ€™s mount. This means you could end up paying for a lot more than a set of spark plugs.

The solution is straightforward: get new spark plugs, install them, and throw away the old ones.

Hi, Lee!

Unfortunately, without inspecting your Sentra, I canâ€™t say for sure whatâ€™s causing it to pull. But your brother could be right. Under-inflated tires have increased resistance to roll - so, if just one has low pressure, your car will drift to the side it's on.

The problem mentioned above is amplified by the fact that an under-inflated tire creates a height differential. This results in the wheel alignment shifting, thus pulling the vehicle that way even more so.

The first thing to do is check the air levels in all of your tires; thereâ€™s a pressure gauge at most gas stations. It will be evident pretty quickly if this is the cause of your problem as one will read noticeably lower than the rest.

Hi, Stephen!

A car's steering wheel can start to shake for a number of reasons. But, since it only happens when you apply the brakes, one issue is far more likely than anything else: you almost certainly have a problem with your vehicle's discs.

Your carâ€™s pads squeeze the rotors, and it ultimately brings you to a stop. But, over time, the discs can thin out or even warp due to excessive heat. This causes vibrations to come through the steering wheel when you try to slow down. The faster you're traveling, the more noticeable it will be.

You shouldn't let this problem linger. Over time the vibration caused by this issue loosens and wears out pads, calipers, and bolts on yourÂ 370Z. Ultimately, it will cost you far more to replace your entire braking system than a set of rotors. In fact, you may even be able to just repair the discs.

Hi, Joe!

I have been unfortunate enough to have this problem myself, and it can be downright embarrassing sometimes. If the odor smells like mildew, the issue is almost certainly bacteria and fungus growing around the condenser and evaporator in your air conditioning unit.

If you turn your A/C up to maximum regularly, the excess water produced by it can result in bacteria growth. So, keep this in mind to stop the problem from coming back after youâ€™ve fixed it.

To take care of this issue youâ€™ll need to get some anti-bacterial treatment. First, turn the air conditioning system off. Then, take the solution and inject through the A/C vents. This should kill whatever is causing the unpleasant smell in your 2017 Pathfinder. Finally, let the carâ€™s fan run for a couple of minutes to evaporate any water which is left on the coils of your unit.

Hi, Dee!

Before anything else, I want to tell you not to worry. Issues like this are, generally, a pretty easy fix. The stall could actually have been caused by nearly being out of gas, so this should be the first thing you check. If thatâ€™s not your culprit, make sure that the battery isnâ€™t too low on your 2017 Rogue Sport, as that would also create a problem.

If the issue wasnâ€™t the result of the reasons mentioned above, there are a few mechanical and electrical components which you could check. Firstly, you should make sure you donâ€™t have a faulty fuel pump, alternator or EGR valve. A problem with any of these parts may result in a stall.

Finally, there may be a problem with your ignition system, like the loss of a spark. So, this is worth checking too as it would cause your engine to cut out. As you can see, plenty of things could have caused you to stall. I would recommend calling into Kirkland Nissan and letting the Technicians in our Service Department have a look.
